Things you could do when you where young....

Like many of you have already mentioned on here,

Playing outside on your street & round the corner and going out and playing out with your mates all day in the summer holidays or if not, on the weekends. This was back in the 1990's before proper game consoles like the Nintendo & N64 were released and so hardly anyone I knew stayed in and played computer games. We all used to go round the back of our local industrial estate where the fields are, playing hide and seek and loads of other games without a care in the world. Going swimming up the local resevoir and also long bike rides and getting loads of scrapes on your arms & legs too and not getting home until 9pm at night with mum and dad screaming at you asking where you have been.

Sadly as most of you will know too many kids stay in these days playing computer games, but also its not as safe outside now as it used to be, with the amount of crime & weirdo's about. I remember reading about the local resevoir that we used to all go swimming up, no one ever goes there anymore because there is a nutcase who hangs around there flashing himself and stalking random people.

[snip]kryptonics

Argh! I had a set of these (Im only 20) they were passed down from my Uncle, still got them laid around somewhere :D

Apparently when I was two I had a habit of picking up dog poo in the park ... not so sure I miss that though :p

I liked climbing trees when I was young, and I still climb them now! Well, I gotta if I wanna keep my fitness up for Parkour.

Like I remember just about every flight I went on, I would go visit the pilot. They would talk to you and tell you about the controls etc.

I did that when I went to Florida when I was 4, made friends with an air-hostess as well :D

I miss climbing tress actually, I loved doing it :(

Get a clip round the ear from a copper for stealing a bottle of lemonade off the Maine lorry. Then going home and telling my ma a copper hit me and why. Then getting cracked by my ma with the wooden spoon.

James????

Sorry, me and my brother had this exact experience. Assuming Maine lorry is milk cart, that is.

Sucking your mum's nipple.

The Maine lorry is uniquely Northern Irish I think. Maine are a lemonade producer here. Dunno if they export to the mainland.

And lol at stealing milk. The healthier choice for the budding criminal mastermind.

Definately the going to see the pilot in the cockpit, it was absolutely fascinating to me then. My dad always used to make a point of going. Sadly those days are very much behind us now.

Go karts. Everytime you saw an old pile of wood, within 5 minutes you'd have teams organised and a track decided on, and would then fervently work all afternoon to nail the wood into something resembling a vehicle, then at the end of the day, with your hands full of splinters, you'd sit in it, watch it collapse around you, then go home for tea.

Good times

Guilty of stealing from the maine lorry as well, the driver who comes round our way still jokes about it, as for the milk man, my mates and i used to collect the empty bottles from him in exchange for cartons of pure orange juice.

I don't know about not playing computer games- I was born in 1985 and played on them loads, as did most people here I'd imagine. I was still out playing stacks of the time too, as are kids today probably. Youngsters will never tire of building a swing from a tree branch or a waterfight, even with Facebook et al. Can't replace human contact.

Catch hoverflies in mid air.

Splat flying wasps between two hands without the knowledge and inhibition that it could sting me.

(What would be considered) trespassing into any decent sized area of shrubs and trees to explore.

Putting high value on toys. Especially when crazes like tamagotchis, pogs and pokemon cards and whatnot went around.

Being more emotional.

Walking along the pavements avoiding white dog poo (what ever happened to that :/ )

Using the green cross code not just running out in the road.

Building your own go-kart out of bits of wood, pram wheels and some string and hurtling down roads without any breaks.

Being amazed at 3D monster maze on the ZX81 with it's 1k of ram.

Queuing for over 3 hours around the block to see Star Wars.

Im 15 now but I would have preferred being a kid back when my dad was a kid, he tells me everything about the stuff he used to do, like he saved for ages and ages to buy an atari (which I now own :P) , and no health and safety freaks where he could go and buy a black widow slingshot and no one would say anything :) by the sound of all these posts it seemed you had a great time :), not like us ,getting chases from community police pmsl, drinking and everyones life being consumed by facebook

cycling on my bike for hours and hours and hours, and not even feel it!

now I have a bit weight gain that I really should get rid of
