Q: What's the difference between the England football team and a tea bag?

A: The tea bag stays in the cup longer.

 Very constructive.

Sky Sports News are reporting that some of the players were not happy being named by John Terry and not happy about the publicity he generated yesterday. It was also reported that Capello refused to discuss tactics and players etc but did concede he would name the team earlier.

Never heard the David James interview...

Does seem like there is something not right regarding him and Capello

If you mean the one by the goal, it was brilliant. I thought some of his answers were great, especially when the bloke asks "1958 when England failed to get out of the group stages" and almost before he could finish James just says "Yeah, not going to happen here either". Whether he was motivated or just massively ****** off, I wouldn't want to be going up against him in the next game.

well we think england are good enough and some of our players are. but we dont have enough quality in the right places.

for instance

in this post beckham era, do you ever think the other teams are actually worried about our free kick and corners? Nope. when an england winger gets down the line, can he actually cross it in? does he even have someone to aim for?

we have taken for granted the beckham threat for so many years. that superb quality ball, cross, or free kick plus captain mavel performances to go with. we are currently awaiting his replacement.

Watch brazil, even with good attacking flai, they employ 2x defensive midfielders who go and win the ball. we play 2x attacking centremidfielders with 1 holding, yet we create far fewer chances to score, how can this be? does more defensive cover = more attacking options? yes and no, it means the attacking players can commit forward when required knowing the def mids will cover them. when lampard or gerard go, who do they think will be covering them? no-one thats right.

emile heskey? i said we should have left him at home months ago. now its not his own fault per se, we know he;s not good enough, and so does he.. but its the manager who picks the team. i can just imagine how the team meeting went last night, [players] 'this tactic with heskey on the field is just NOT working, sorry heskey, i know you can hear this, its not yr fault but damn, we tried this years ago when you were a goalscoring prospect and it didnt work out then either'

goalkeepers, how many years of searching since seaman and not one regular? robinson looked possible but his confidence must have been broken with his mistake. which was unfortunate btw, not simply terrible judgement as per greens chuff up.

an italian manager? lets just say, he doesnt necessarily know how to motivate an englishman.

Unsurprisingly Terry's press-conference has gone down well in the mornings papers  Interesting to read that several players weren't too happy with Terry's comments too so I guess he wasn't speaking 'on behalf of the players'.

Incredibly naive and stupid of Terry to say what he did yesterday, especially if he hasn't got the balls to follow it through and raise the issues with Capello, which it's being reported he didn't.

I would imagine terry listened to the players whinging and then aired it. It seemed the players whinging are the ones without the bottle to carry it through.

From reading the 'inside' info in the papers it was the players that didn't want terry to carry it through rather than him bottling it. He named the players that had been sitting about discussing the 'tactics' and they obviously didn't like that.

I think Capello did the right thing in deciding not to give into the team or we would be back to Sven and Beckham having too much power in the team.

There's lots of calls for Rooney to be employed in the lone striker role again, but we tried that before and it didn't work well and 99% of this forum moaned about rooney not being able to lead the line alone.

I don't understand this sudden turn on fortunes, we breezed through qualis will only 1 game that was lost,

what has fundamentally changed from that time to now??? if the system didn't work through qualis, then why wasn't it picked up then?

Terry is leading a rebellion against capellos reign and should be disclipined by the manager, what hes done by telling the media all these things about the squad and what he thinks should be done is tantamount to rebellion.

This man ****** his mates girl, he is a ruthless, snidey man and needs to realise that he is a player not the manager.

He's creating splits within the squad, lets say the players do have a concern terry or the captain should tell this to the manager privately so he knows and then in the private meeting should persuade him to have a meeting with ALL the squad to discuss the concerns. This wont make capello look as being undermined by his players.

Terry by doing what he's done has made players think: "so capellos saying this and terrys saying this, who should i listen to?"

The correct answer is the manager who despite all his faults has the teams best interest at heart.

So terrys made a bad period in the england camp even worser, well done son.

Because they fooled themselves into believing "well if we're playing badly but still winning, that must be a good thing"

About the team, lets be honest without the media hype they are at best an average team, still that dont mean they cant win the world cup with an average team.

So that leaves us with the manager's abilities to motivate and organise his team. Now as we are at the world cup, they shouldn't need any more motivation so something is wrong with the players themselves they do need a good kick up the ass.

So the first problem is the players lack of motivation, for this they have thereselves to blame.

Now capello is italian and cant speak english well, how the **** can u expect him to motivate the squad properly? A national teams manager should in my eyes be of the same nationality so he has that same spirit and desire to succeed.

Sometimes when a team is down or weakhearted a strong manager or captain can fix this, i dont think an italian manager can do this for an english team.

Now about his tactics right or wrong, the players must abide by them and give all there heart to the game.

Terry the idiot has made it harder but it can be fixed and its upto capello to do that.

He needs to first sort out terry by himself, secondly have a frank team talk where all the problems are discussed and finally a bit of motivational talk.

I think a new formation might just make the players mentally a lot happier and could work wonders.

The England team visited an orphanage in Cape Town today. "It's heartbreaking to see their sad little faces with no hope" said Jamal aged 6.

:D

I haven't seen the Terry press conference, what did he say? Who has been whinging about tactics in the camp?

Well supposedly after the first game they weren't allowed to have a single beer, or just relax so they apparently ended up, after playing like poo, going to a hotel and sitting in a room and not talking about it. Which in most situations would make people stew on the problems and not get them out in the open.

They were allowed a little downtime after the second game and it would seem they talked and a lot of them realised there were a lot of little things they thought holding them back.

Frankly I despise Terry, but he sounded like a captain, maybe he shouldn't have talked about it, maybe it was the only way to try to force Capello to take a meeting in the first place, maybe it was a way to back off the press by letting them know they think there are things to be done to ease the problems and get the team working better which isn't a bad thing.

Thing is, even if Capello didn't follow a single one of their suggestions, just being heard makes people feel better, if the whole team feels completely ignored theres going to be disharmony, just being heard, even if not advice followed, could make a huge difference.

Capello's an idiot for not listening, and players getting their agents to try and pretend nothings wrong and they are happy as can be, screams more of players scared to death of being dropped and losing the potential advertising opportunities than actually wanting to fix things.

A squad scared to death to tell the manager what they think, well, creates the current England and French situation, which is not good.

This isn't school, he's a manager but not a teacher, players are adults, no communication both ways will create problems.

The whole situation is a joke, the squad chosen is a joke, almost everything about the England setup is a joke at the moment.

I have to say the telling players who is playing 2 hours before the game is entirely ridiculous, can you imagine going out infront of 50-100k people and knowing a billion or two, are watching, theres pressure there. Having it dumped on you two hours before a game and having no time to get mentally ready, calm down and even physically get ready is ridiculous.

If I was only told 2 hours before giving a huge speech or something, I'd spend those two hours nervous, full of adrenaline from the moment I found out, tired, maybe not eat properly, maybe not prepare properly and be no where near the top of my game. By the time I got out there, my adrenaline will be used up, my body will be tired from being in a nervous state for two hours, in terms of football theres no way in hell you'd be at top energy levels and be as good as possible at that point.

Tell me a day before and I won't be crapping myself for 2 hours before the speech/game, I'd be preparing, I'd sleep better, I'd get ready, I'd be thinking clearer etc, etc, etc. At least Capello has changed that, but isn't it a shame the players haven't talked and told Capello about this 2 years ago, let alone a couple weeks ago.
