*** The all new iPhone 4 thread - Keep all iPhone 4 stuff in here ***

I've got a TNT tracking number which says that it's "Out for delivery" but I've spoken to a friend who works for TNT who has told me that it's hit the UK and will be delivered tomorrow, the message I'm getting is a 'glitch in the matrix'.

Thanks for that, let my friend know about the low stock. He called our local store and they're going to have 10 for sale!

I know, i wanna cry, instead though i am oing to leave work early and go pub to watch the football, hangover should be well and truly nailed on my closing time tonight :)

I might be, I have the morning off work. It would be by far the most pathetic thing I have ever done in my life though lol. No I just can't see it happening, I might just pop in after work. Or maybe... I just don't know yet. I have one reserved anyway :D

I am definately not gonna stand in a HUGE queue. I would rather stroll about the arndale centre and pop into the other phone shops to see what offers they have on.

Yeah, i wasn't going to do it at first - but after people egging me on to go pick it up in the morning I've decided to go for it.

Sorry, it's probably been asked before but I can't find anything!

Can anyone speculate when Apple may be getting the white 32GB'ers for pre-order? Looking to order direct from Apple as I want it sim-free!

Forgive me if I've missed this, but this thread is huge now. Are all of you who have made pre-orders with apple buying the phone outright? Or are you hoping that when you get to the apple store, they will let you use that pre-order to get a contract?

Seems to be a disproportionately high number of people buying that phone outright (though I would if I could).

pre orders and in store reservations are separate things.

Those talking about "pre orders" are buying the phone outright PAYG. The reason for this high number is those planning to use sim free tariffs with it (eg o2 simplicity) which cost £15 a month instead of £35/ £40 a month and tie you into an 18/24 month contract

Sim only are 30 day or 12 months.

Works out cheaper in the long run if you have the cash to stump £500 straight up.

The end of the Engadget review sums it up about right I think, the iPhone4 is about the best 'smartphone' out at the moment. It will suit most people, most of the time.
That's not to say that other people won't prefer an Android/Blackberry/Whatever handset.

On a personal note, I won't be getting one - but it does have more of a draw than the 3G/3GS. Really like the hardware, not keen on the software for my mobile.

That's why I personally think it's so popular. The iPhone isn't really a proper "smartphone", it's far more basic, however most people don't actually want a smartphone, they want a feature rich feature phone, which the iPhones are.

There in lies the problem for me. Having had a HD I don't want to go back to something as restrictive as my old SE's (I love them but not as an every day phone). The iPhone software is like an updated version for touchscreen of that software and for me that's just not good enough.

Unfortunately it looks like WinPho 7 is going the same way, which is a shame as that puts me right off, even though it appears to have a stunning UI.

Vodafone have just rung me. They're phoning round now taking orders to whoever expressed interest.

If you're waiting for them I suggest you get on the phone NOW!

They will be shipping them tomorrow, for arrival on Friday.

I ordered a 32GB Black, £189 on the £45/m tariff (18mth)

Has anyone had any success ringing them off the back of this?

I guess all those that are on o2 and need a microsim and haven't been sent one will need to go to o2 tomorrow after picking up their iPhones and fight through the o2 crowds to get one?

I may end up cutting the big one I have down and wait until the crowds die down.

I called my local O2 store who wouldn't tell me how many they had but she did tell me that they are unlikely to run out tomorrow.

Fyi, if anyone was planning on getting one from either of the Orange stores in Dundee tomorrow, don't bother. Phoned them both:

Overgate store got 7 16GB's and 1 32GB.
Murraygate store got 2 16GB's and no 32GB's.

I have to be in work by 9am, and the Overgate store doesn't open until 9. Murraygate opens at 8am, but they got no 32GB's.

Basically, I don't have a chance of getting one tomorrow. :(

Well, after thinking long and hard about this I've decided not to get an IP4. I have a 32GB 3GS and I can't see why I need the upgrade.

This is unusual for me, as most phones get changed after 6 months to the latest and greatest and I'm a total gadget freak.

But on comparing the IP4 and the 3GS I just can't see a need to make the change.

Facetime - Will never use it.
Upgraded camera and flash- think I've used my current camera less than 20 times in 12 months and have a very good compact camera already.
Retina display - Well that would be really nice, but have an iPad for movies etc.
iOS4- Will upgrade my 3GS to that for multi tasking/folders etc.
Better Motion control - Can't think where I'd make a use out of it

In a way I'm disappointed that I can't make a reason to upgrade, but with the cost to upgrade likely to be over £300 after I sold my 3GS, I just can't justify it in my mind when the 3GS is such a good phone.

Don't get me wrong, maybe in a week or two's time when I've had a play with one I might change my mind, but at this point I'm passing by.

Good luck to all of you who are getting one, I'll definitely be getting phone envy when I see people out and about using them.

Taff
