New Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II

Amazing, but 100k?

I see little point in buying something like this unless you want to use it - perhaps its just me.

I think 50K is madness, I suspect 50K is reasonable but 100K is taking the pee a little, but if someone is willing to pay that fair play. A car for a collector, though I agree cars should be driven not parked but nice to see them appear when they do.

I cant see that Merc reaching any more than 70k,

I could never see the appeal of those when they were out new, manual gearbox, left hand drive, worse than the e30 M3's.

This is why they appeal, homologation specials are simply an expensive bitza but all the more epic for it.

They did Stratos and Delta homologation cars that won great acclaim.

They did, but I wasn't sure where you were going - they have nothing to do with the thread other than being homologation specials - in which case you could have named any number of cars and made as little sense.

There's an enthusiast market for most specials; they are rare, almost at race spec and in most cases bear little resemblance to the car they are supposed to look like.

For all an Impreza or Lancer Evo look like the rally car, they're nothing remotely like underneath. Homologation specials are built solely to fulfill the quota required (200 for group b rally, 500 for touring cars etc) and actually ARE pretty much the touring car in a lower spec. For all it's 250bhp, you could take it to 500+ quite easily I'd imagine. If you ignore the figures, the technology in them (at the time) is way in advance of the contemporary road cars.

Some super rich collector from somewhere will probs not think twice about giving £100k to have it in their collection. Will more than likely be one of their "cheaper" cars.
