*** The all new iPhone 4 thread - Keep all iPhone 4 stuff in here ***

As I've just posted in the iPhone thread, there seem to be a couple of problems with the iPhone 4 at the moment.

There are increasing reports of people getting them with quite poor screen faults, blotches under the screen of a brown colour.

Also, equally worrying, if you actually pick the phone up and hold it, the signal quality rapidly depletes as it hinders the antenna. (Link and video)

The screen issue can be fixed, but if the phones design creates that antenna problem, that isn't good news at all.

Will be interesting to see how this pans out, I wouldn't want to be one of those people waiting outside an Apple store right now :D

Well, it doesn't seem too promising to be honest.

The Antenna issue here (as someone posted above) is equally concerning.

In short, it seems that actually picking your phone up reduces signal quality quite a lot.

I'm still surprised Apple could have let this slip? Will be interesting to see further developments.

It has also been noted that AT&T in america have rubbish coverage, reviews have mentioned that the phone suffered from less dropped calls as opposed to the 3GS...

Anyone who may of had previous launch experience with the Manchester Arndale Apple store may be able to answer this..

But how long would you expect the queues to be at 8am tomorrow morning for that specific Apple store? Very generic and likely tiring question, but i'm just wondering how early i should get there..

Reviews have mentioned that, though some people on that forum have noticed calls dropping more than on the 3GS. And yes AT&T are known to be rubbish.

As I've said, nothing has been properly tested yet but it is good cause for concern when you are parting with half a grand potentially :)

For those hoping to queue at an Apple store tomorrow, this blog covering last year's queue at the Milton Keynes Apple store may be of use. He claimed that the first customers were allowed in at 8am. So if I were you, I'd be getting there for about 6, especially in a major city such as Manchester.

I also think my desire signal reception is bad...

Just made my desire signal reception drop from 3 bars to 1 bar by picking it up and holding it/moving it around :(

Wonder if the Bumper will remove the resistance caused by touching the antenna? Though my assumption would be 'grounding' yourself with it would make it actually a better antenna...

ps3ud0

Think i will give up my iPhone 4 pre order to wait until these issues are sorted out.

It's the store I worked at, so I have some vague idea... ;)

iPad launch, for comparison, had people queuing up outside the door by HMV, and the door by Cafe Nero. At around 7am, the doors by Cafe Nero were opened, allowing people to enter the Arndale. A queue then forms around the railings outside the Apple Store, and loops back around on itself.

When I drove into Manchester at around 6:45am, there were maybe 30 people outside of the HMV entrance, and around 10 outside the Nero entrance.

I expect iPhone 4 launch to be bigger though. Hope it helps.

Hm, mine drops a bar or two however I have a quite dire signal inside my house on any phone with any network so I cant really test it properly :p

You would think so, although I'm no expert in how atennas work!

I've just tested this on my Desire (although I've not got much of a good signal in my house) and it would appear it too drops a bar or two when you pick it up!

I'll try it on the 3GS, Hero and N900 now to compare! :p
