I also dont like apple preaching about what features are 'cool and new' when my older phones could do them, and phones before them even.

I don't get this at all, it's called marketing. I know they're not 'new', you know they aren't. But if they're the features you want then what does it matter?

Apples marketing reminds me of washing powder, every 8 months its new and improved, after 4 years its been improved 4 times and its now nearly as good as the competion, it must have been pretty awful in the first place.

Alternatively the competition has improved as well?

i just confirmed the bar issue on my 3G w/ iOS4.

TBH, I've been running that over two weeks now and not had any issues so I'm not worried.

(Well, apart from that the whole OS is slow as hell on the 3G)

Confirm both of these, when i hold my 3G the signal drops 2 bars.

Also, slow (as expected) using os4

Perhaps its a problem with the new radio firmware then? (If OS4 has new radio firmware) weakening the signal or something.

In which case, good news, its a software(esque) problem.

Doesn't account for a lot of the problems with people touching various parts of the phone together and using cloths etc, its a bit all over the place

This vid seems to suggest its an issue with the new OS.

I can confirm that. Holding my 3G around the rim makes it drop from 5 bars to 2.

My trusty 2G running iOS 3.1 doesn't lose any signal. No matter how I hold it, it stays on full signal!

I'm currently sat outside Apple Store Trafford, along with about 50 others in the Purchase queue. Maybe only 10-15 in the reservation queue. Turns out it opens at 7am not 8, not sure if that's just here but I'd bet it's not. I'll post images to my twitter account (see sig).

Just checked the signal thing with my 3GS running ios4. Sure enough, it drops from 5 bars to 1 when I hold it tight.
Os issue definitely.
