Project Evo "Franken-IV" forge rebuild!

Its ph@tboy from MIG, used to have a white Cav GSI hatch back then, was in central region with Johnny.A, Nobbie etc.

sorry was thinkin of PV when gav bought the projector.....my bad

Evo is looking epic tho mate, that manifold is pure porn

Could very well be a scooby specific week point or a bad batch! I think the TEINs are very good otherwise considering their cost. I take it your car is gonna be a full on track car after these mods?

TEINS on any car have a very high tendency to leak and start to fail.

Ahh now I've seen yer name with the @ in it rings bells, I remember! What car you got now then mate?

Cheers yeah its getting there, just taking its time, found out today my engine mounts turned up but im 1 short, they messed up the order which could mean it will take another couple of weeks until I get the one im missing, arrrgghhhh

had a 2.2 astra mk4 for a few years now, on the path to upgrading but cant decide what I want to do, RX8's keep catching my eye :D

Thats proper gutting about the mounts, always something small that ends up causing the issues :(

Sweet  Love the work done so far, I'm always impressed by people who can strip engines and rebuild like this, probably because I'm pretty useless at cars by comparison!

Loving the 1BMP shot - absolute classic!

Well 3 weeks on and guess what? STILL 1 of the 4 engine mounts aint f@#*%n turned up, am really peed off with Powerflex, bad enough there was a 5-week wait initially but then to mess up the order on one of the mounts, promise it would be out in 5 days and then 3 weeks later still not a peep out of them is very poor, think im about to start a storm!!!

Sod it anyway im planning to put the engine/box/transfer back in this Saturday as I got next week off to try and get most of it back together. I should be able to borrow a mount to get it all back in and then swap it out if the other one ever turns up!! Grrrrr

Don't quite understand everything in thread but it all looks expensive and shiny and mechanical so that's good enough for me!

However...

Latex glove shoved on to stop crap getting in while engine is out

...good to see some 'technology' never changes :D

Type 9 gearbox in the Westfield always pees its oil out when your removing the engine/box (as the prop make the seal). Solution = Latex glove .

Though these days I use ones from Lakeland with Aloe Vera  :o.

Damn, why didn't I ever think of doing that! Cheers mate, you've saved my garage floor :D

Well its back in! Still missing the upper Powerflex gearbox mount (sore subject the useless bunch of idiots) but will just have to swap it out when it does turn up! (3 weeks overdue)
Anyway I made up a new much improved engine dolly and it was perfect for the job, it cleared the engine crane legs and was very manoeuvrable, live and learn from the 1st attempt eh! :D

Think I chose a bad day to do it yesterday though, was sooo hot I felt quite dizzy and almost passed out with heat stroke 3/4 of the way though!! Nothing a half hour break sit down and 1.5 litres of water didnt sort though! lol Ah well its back in now so I can get on with the rest of it and get it ran in, still plenty to do though! :D

Heres some pics from yesterdays efforts...

We put the engine and gearbox back in the Westfield yesterday, was blooming hot! Drunk insane amounts of water!

Well its alive!!!

Had the week off last week to do some DIY and things around the house but ended up mostly putting the Evo back together haha. All went pretty smoothly, everything bolted back together with new gaskets etc all round, few issues with a couple of things but all easily sortable!

Small butt-clenching moment when first starting it up for the first time, followed Mark's start up procedure (remove plugs, disconnect injector resistor pack and do a few cold cranks in 15 second bursts to prime bearings/turbo/latch adjustor's etc) plugs back in, resistor pack reconnected and the beaut fired straight away, lumpy for about 10 seconds then after holding it on 2000rpm for a little bit to clear it now idles perfectly :D :D :D

Drove it up and down the street without bumper/bonnet and all seemed OK besides the clutch biting stupidly high so assume I might need to bleed it!
Hopefully going to refit the bumper/bonnet this evening and then start the 500mile run in process before mapping (when I decide on what ECU to go for!)

Things still to do are:

  • New inlet pipe with Tial BOV (know anywhere that does these at a good price?)
  • Poly bush rest of the suspension & rear diff
  • Install whiteline rear ARB
  • Set of 272 cams & adjustable pulleys (not 100% on what make yet)
  • Possibly new intercooler but not sure yet...
  • ECU choices are - stick with my Ecutek'd 5RS one, install the Apexi PFC D-jet I've got sat about or save for a Vipec from MAD?!
  • Garrett GT3076R turbo & full race manifold when I can afford it!!
  • Strip interior & fit 6-point bolt in roll cage (on the lookout if anyone knows of any?)
  • Pair of bucket seats & 4-point harness's
  • Flock dash and re-do most of wiring!

What no start-up vid? I am dissapoint :(

Great work though. Glad she's up and running, can't wait to see what sort of power it makes when mapped

Cheers mate, I do have a start up vid my mate done on his phone but its very poor quality, he said it was ok but he blatantly lied lol I will chuck it up anyway when im home as I don't have it to hand in work! :D

It should make anywhere around 400-420bhp on standard cams and this turbo, 440ish with cams. Need to save for the "Proper" turbo now!!
