Ive just had my 5770 Vapour-X delivered and everything has been installed. Now im pretty new to graphics cards etc, a nvidia 7950GT having been the last card id bought previously and only been playing Counterstrike in the past. Now i see my card has DX11 capabilities. I have no idea what this is, should i download it to play BC2 with? Apologies for my lack of knowledge, thats what im here for though

What OS are you running? DX11 is available from Vista and upwards only. It's included in Win 7 so you don't need to download it, if you're running that OS.
Yea im running W7 64bit. So it runs automatically? The only reason im asking is, i saw on the reviews people saying there were noticable differences when upgrading from cards above the 3870 which i last had, although admittedly ive only played for 5 mins i couldnt see that much difference tbh
DX11 support comes built in with W7, but the game actually has to use it, otherwise you'll just be seeing DX9/10 effects.
If you're worried, download the latest Directx redistributable from the microsoft website. Other than that, just let the games do the rest and enjoy your nice new card
Don't forget to crank up the resolution and effects in the options of the game. Then you will see the extra power being it to good use also it's worth downloading the ati driver 10.5 hotfix. This is specifically for bad company 2 to run at it's best

I downloaded fraps and seem to be averaging about 30 fps. Going to start overclocking it 2moro once ive read up on overclocking gpu's as ive only ever done my cpu
alright mate, i also have a 5770 but xfx xxx model. i am pretty impressed with it. previously having HIS hd 4670 quite a performance upgrade. but can totally see what you are saying about dx11, i have a LG 23 inch full hd monitor and can not tell the difference!!! i have couple dx11 games dirt 2 being the most pronounced 1. am i missing something or are the changes no better than dx10?
What res u running your card on as i think 30fps is quite poor! I run dirt 2 completely maxed out res 1920x1080 and average 46.2fps .

CCC is a good start, but MSI afterburner will allow you to get further. ATI overdrive got me to 940/1300 on stock volts so you can get a pretty solid clock out of these cards. For a good example of dx11 I recommend running the unigine benchmark and toggling dx11 on and off. The games that do use it don't do so in a very noticeable way, but I'm of the mind that it's all a cumulative effect of small changes that make a good image. The 10.6 drivers caused really bad stutter in dirt2 for me so I rolled back to 10.5s, but that was the only negative effect of the 10.6s for me. The hotfix for bc2 is included in 10.6, but not for 4xxx series cards or xfire setups.
What did the hotfix 10.5 fix in bc2??? my copy n card seam ok. heard a lot of bad comments on the 10.6 so gonna stay with 10.5 until a stable version is finally released!!!

oh ya what kind of fps are you getting in dirt 2?
Ok, so as a complete novice gpu overclocker, il increase the clock speed and memory clock both at the same time? one at a time? and then what shall i run to test the stability of the overclock?

A 5770 was the wrong card to buy then. Unless you plane to crossfire in the future. A single card will struggle at that res with any details turned up.
No it wont.
Atm im using CF 5770's and it handles everything.
When i had a single card, it handled all my games at my res with everything turned on as much as possible.
the only reason i added a second was because i wanted two cards
and my res is 1920 x 1200
Utter rubbish.
I run 1920x1080 and I play (pretty much) everything on max details, and just adjust the AA to suit.
As for Dirt2 and the like, wouldn't bother with DX11 mode, hardly looks any different to DX9 but runs considerably slower.
BFBC2 will run fine in DX11, settings I use are everything on HIGH, 2xAA, 16xAnniso, HBAO Off.
