08 1.2 Automatic Micra...

I'd take a micra over the train any day

I certainly wouldn't.

But as Fox says, at such short notice any chance of a decent priced rail fare has gone out of the window, and London > Aberdeen 1st class return is going to cost a fortune.

Are work not covering the cost?

He'll probably average around 60mph. That's a long time in a car seat that's not made for those sorts of journeys.

If work are sendig you there, get them to get you a car or pay for train.

So Nissan deliberately fit seats that are not fit for purpose? Come on...

Not many companies will pay first class regardless of when it's booked!

No, they deliberately build down to a price point and take into consideration the average journey length into their calculations for what they can afford to lose in support/comfort and pliability.

They are perfectly adequate for popping to the shops, or even venturing a few towns over, but they are not designed to give long-term back support whilst being seated for 6+ hours.

Guess I don't work for crap companies then, as everywhere I've ever worked has sent me 1st on the train to London have I needed to go.

I bet you would if it had a BMW/Audi/Merc badge on the back.

So they aren't super comfortable, so what?
It doesn't mean the OP's going to get paralysed is it.

Seats are probably as good as train seats. Noise levels are probably a bit higher than the train but not much if you stick to 70.

Plus you don't gave to put up with unwashed hippies, fat people taking half your seat and eating egg/tuna sandwiches or screaming children. Car wins every day, unless there's a very good reason not to use a car. A 2 year old micra isn't a good enough reason IMO

That's not what I said. The bm is much more suited to the job when it comes to comfort.
I've driven enough mundane cars to know that standard seats, in cars designed to be a shopping trolley, are nowhere near as comfortable as my bm

I certainly wouldn't take the Cooper S we have sat outside, not for that kind of journey.

Have you ever ridden 1st class on a Pendolino? They certainly aren't filled with "the unwashed masses", and have far more comfortable seats than most cars, let alone the Micra.

Half of the other undergrads I work with see my car as a reliable tool.
The other half cannot believe that I haven't blown every penny I have on something like a 3 series and look at my car in disgust.

A Cooper S is a sports hatch and will have hard suspension.

If people really are THAT pathetic over cars, then they are strange people indeed.

If you get a chubby next to you, you have to put the arm rest down.

Then shout "back, back i tell you"

good for you. I've not worked for a crap company before, just ones that are sensible with their expenses.

But has less road noise, a decent amount of power, and seats that aren't utterly dire.

...but the OP has a 2 year old micra, not a Cooper S.

A 1.2 micra will have what, 80hp? That is fine for a motorway trip. My 59hp 59lb/ft micra goes on motorways and I haven't snapped my spine in half either.

Can I assume that you are a badge snob who wouldn't be seen dead in anything that isn't cool?

Some people are so shallow it is unreal!! I would be very grateful my parents even OFFERED me their car to use!

It's when they start spilling over the armrest that it becomes a problem.

I'm not exactly skinny myself so I've got a bit of sympathy, but I easily fit in one seat in a plane or train. But I always seem to end up sitting next to some 25 stone manbeast/shemonster who sweat a lot and breathe through their mouth. Maybe they see me and think 'he looks like he enjoys a snack, I'll sit there...we can while away the hours talking about kebab'

That's because your a student who has no care for your journey or how you feel whe you get out of the car at the end.

Ditto.

I've been sent at a days notice to London before at £200 each way on the train, but never first class however far in advance it was booked.

Just 2 inches shorter!

I am 6 ft 3 and my old micra isn't exactly spacious:p.
My same arguement applies for people saying they cannot drive a small car because they are 6 ft tall. I use mine dailly and my 6ft 5 dad has used it too.

People need to stop being little faggots and just get on with it tbh;).

The OP's car is broken, so he cannot drive in sublime comfort and style.

I've been doing trains from Bristol to Manchester and back lots of times this last 5 weeks, can't say I've seen many people like you describe at all
