Picked the Accord up today - few minor niggles

Yeh that might be the answer, it's the bass that's a bit pants. Might have a crack at wiring the Bose sub up first

Clutch - done (new fluid), cost a few quid of dot4
Idle - sorted, cost a can of carb cleaner
Air con, still fine so no major leaks.

Oh noez, broken old shed, cost me about 70 quid to sort everything out :D

It's also returning 34mpg, costing pennies to insure and is ready for a days dog walking tomorrow.

I made the right choice

You're the second person to point that out in the last 10 minutes.....I know I know, I just can't be arsed

It did indeed :) nice pedal action now, feels much more positive and it's smooth to engage.

What signature?

I know, but it still says VTEC on the back and I like the meme :D plus image editing apps for my Apple iPad 16gb aren't very good.

I've got to stop promising you beer, I'm going to have to actually buy you then at some point!

he mentioned it was newport in the other thread; i've been waiting for this thread :p

You don't have proper VTEC!

Let me make you one so you can make it 3 pints you owe me :p

In all seriousness, what's the difference? Just curious really, I thought all the VTEC engine a were pretty much the same, just differences in capacity and maps, i wasn't aware there were differences in the VTEC system itself.

It's a shame that it's probably got the second best engine note of any car I've owned (the first place award goes to the alfa v6) - it just doesn't back the noise up with any real movement!

There's quite a lot of systems under the VTEC umbrella, some systems are there to get the most power out of the engines, others are there solely to improve effiency, yours will be the latter. 9k revs and an agressive VTEC changeover at 6k really wouldn't match the cars wallowy nature anyway :p

VTEC-E drastically reduces the lift (and duration?) of one of the inlet valves in each cylinder below a certain point in the rev range which varies depending on load.
DOHC VTEC is the performance one, basically does the opposite, increases the lift and duration of all the valves above a fixed point in the rev range.
3-stage VTEC combines both of the above within the same engine, to the best of my knowledge was only available on the JDM D15B SOHC engine, as such was never sold in this country.
i-VTEC also includes variable valve timing, I believe it can adjust the cam phase by 50 degrees and that works across the whole rev range, on top of the usual cam profile switching.
