Oi!

Get out of here with your sottish crap there loads of threads for that!

This is for Wales!

Now where did i leave my scone...

The Oil Revenue is actually less than the amount that Westminster give to Scotland annually, so any talk of oil revenue is pointless, besides most of it belongs to the Shetlands and there is no quarantee they would wish independence or if they did it is highly doubtful it would be as part of an independent Scotland, in fact the consensus is quite the opposite.

Besides Scotland would probably have to cede any claim to the oil and gas fields just to gain agreement to independence.

Rubbish.

What consensus is this you speak of? Evidence?

Shetland islands are a part of Scotland, the country gaiden, before you start that one too.

If scotland went, the isles do too. All of them. Neither are they Norways.

Also, I think the case for indpendence is just as equally a case on cultural independece.

on the subject of road signs came across the best roundabout ever on the way back today , 2 of roads had signs pointing to various town etc, then there where two roads labelled only with big signs saying "North Wales" and "south Wales" on them :D

What if the islands don't want to be part of Scotland though?

Would be a bit hypocritical to demand your independence while forceing them to come with you/join you/stick with you.

The road going to scotland is 'road to the north'

:D

/Shrugs.

What if anglesey doesn't want to be apart of wales?

Its all speculative rubbish, thats why.

Neither am I demanding anything, Tefal.

They were also stuck with us through bargaining with foreign sovereigns a very long time ago, before the creation of UK and Great Britain..

Kind of like wales to England, and half the world to the old british empire.

Shetlanders are just as entitled to their independece as Scotland. They have been making noises for a few years for semi-autonomy followed by independence, as they were prior to 1469. Most Shetlanders no more see themselves as Scottish as Alex Salmond does British.

"“In future we will be looking to discuss Shetland's constitutional future with the Scottish Government with a view to securing the best possible deal.”

The opinions of one man, and neither does it look like he resents being involved in Scotland as a country either.

He is talking about home rule or devolved power for the islands from Scotland, not independence.

You can also find columnist to say pretty much whatever you want to say these days, you have free thinking people with opinions everywhere. Doesn't make it a consensus.

How many people do you know from Shetland gaiden?

Spent much time there? I have many friends over the water.

They see themselves as multicultural, but intrinsically Scottish at the same time.

Although I am not going to debate the finer points of the Scottish identy with a man who claimed in all seriousness that Scotland wasn't a country in the first place.

Why not England get independance from Wales and the Scots.
Now thats a vote winner.

I honestly don't see why this isn't said louder, or isn't more of a political movement down south in England.

If I was English I don't think I'd be happy with the unions.

If we all cost you money, why keep paying for us?
