The ContiSport Contact3 thread

Tell that to the wheel on my VXR that got annihilated by a very small and light brush with the curb - the "rim protection" just disintegrated instantly.

It was "just the odd parking brush". Typical scenario, parallel parking on a high street, the pressure is put on by the anxious drivers queuing behind you, and in a split second lapse of concentration I just scuffed a little bit of curb. It wasn't hard or fast, just a light brush.

I guess it may be a little more effective if you have a bit more sidewall, I'm not sure, but in 225/35/18 it offered me nothing in the way of protection.

Well it would have protected against it, if the rubber hadn't just disintegrated the moment it touched the curb.

That said it may have faired better against a new, super smooth shiny curb.

you mention expensive retail but obscure size - my 19" Alfa tyres set me back £250 a corner. Eek.

Mine:

Rear - "4409" stamped - What does the 44 refer to? week number?

Front - "3308" stamped

So we can conclude then that production date and the size of the font have absolutely no relation at all and that therefore you cannot tell the 'new ones' by the font size.

How bizarre :p

I'd imagine you are wrong, why spend time money and effort developing a new variant for no gain

Marketing? 'New and improved' type of thing...?
