*** The all new iPhone 4 thread - Keep all iPhone 4 stuff in here ***

Apart from the obvious antenna problem that seem people seem to have. Does it do a better job at picking up a signal? I found that the iPhone 3gs was generally quite poor at picking up a signal for calls or for internet access.

Just using the iph4 at work at my desk with the 3GS I was getting one bar or no signal iph4 is showing a steady 2bars.The office I work in is notorious for poor reception

Took me a little while to get use to the warmer screen tone but it's much less harsh and looks more paper like than other LCD displays

Miles better than the 3G I had but not sure how good compared to other phones on the market.

Yep, when I'm taking care to hold it away from the LHS it gets better reception than my 3GS (but I could hold my 3GS however I wanted!)

Just emailed the guys at Orange regarding my poor signal (not the left hander thing) at my home address. Considering the coverage checker is saying I should have 'Excellent' coverage, I think it's a tad unreasonable that I'm getting calls pushed to voicemail and constant 'no coverage' messages.

We shall see what they have to say - hopefully it's just a faulty mast!

Mine is much better on 3G than my 3GS.

You mean actually being bale to pick up a 3G signal when your normally just ouseide of one?
As this is what i experience in work so a better gain on the3G signal would be a huge benefit!

Regarding your "Pushed to Voicemail" and "no coverage".

I'd be interested in what they say to you because I had exactly the same throughout March this year.

Was impossible to make a call for almost an entire month where I work, people would call me and it would go straight to Voicemail BUT I'd get a text instantly saying I'd missed a call.

I could send texts, surf the web, but no matter what, any voice calls I made would give the "No Coverage" message.

After, eventually, getting through to Orange, I was told the following:

There are numerous 3G masts around London, nearly all of them were down in North London (where I work) and so all calls were going to one mast and as such was just sheer luck as to whether I got a signal.

They guided me from switching from 3G to GPRS and yes, I was able to make calls as soon as I'd done that.

After spending an entire month going back to 3G, trying to call, having no luck, I managed to make calls on the 3G network about end of March, beginning of April.

Got sweet FA in terms of compensation from Orange as they said my service wasn't affected as I could still make calls.

Little thread hijack, but like I said, would be interested in what they say to you and if you get the same as me.

I wasn't too enamoured with the battery life, so I ran it down to completely empty and then charged it fully over night last night. Been playing with it all morning and I cant get it to budge off 100%. Happy now.

Yeah, it takes a couple of full charges and then it's pretty stellar.

Coming from a 3G, which required charging at least once a day, I am hugely impressed with the battery life. Went to a birthday party yesterday and took 6 HD videos, which impressed everyone hugely.

In addition everyone was playing with the phone as it is the newest gadget on the block. After all of that faffing about, the battery was on 75%.

Hope you didn't eat too much jelly and blancmange. Did you win at musical chairs?

If it's half as good as the iPad battery then it'll be pretty damn good. I intend to buy an iPhone 4 once all the kinks are ironed out.

I think the reception issue applies to all phones and not sure any software botch job will fix it. A colleague has just got one and I had a go today.

Without touching it, it is 5 bars
He held it, it goes down to 3 bars
I held it, it goes down to 2 bars (twice as fast as he did).

Bearnig in mind I work in Brindley Place in Birmingham, RBS building is next door, BBRM (the Birmingham radio station is in the building i am) plus loads of big companies so the telephone mast must be close by if not above my head on the roof (i am on the top floor).

I think it has more to the fact on person to person, some people will be more "conductive" than others.

That said, with the bumpers on, there is no signal loss.

is this specificly bridging the gap or just holding the antenna anywhere ?

I'm in quite a poor signal area at work, i only get 4 bars with the iphone 4, wheas i never got more than 2 with my 3G.

i can loose signal by bridging the gap at the bottom left, however if i dont but still touch the sides i can keep my 4 bars.

I just rang carphone warehouse first i was told they only had it on vodaphone, just called back and they now have it on orange for delivery tommorow , this was in the space of 5 minuites.

Even if there is a flaw in the hardware design of the phone, it is definitely exaggerated by a software issue. I had not noticed, but on my iOS 4 3GS and i hold it with my whole hand, the bars drop too immediately in the same way as the iPhone 4. You can also have a look on youtube, people showing their 3GS's and 3G's on iOS 4 doing the same.

Expect a software update.

What screen protectors and/or cases are people going for? I've had a look on Amazon, it's always hard to tell what is decent quality though.

My iPhone 4 32GB arrives tomorrow and I'd like to get some protection for it ordered as soon as poss.
