Car wash takes less than 5minutes per car multiply that by average of £7 each car means you're looking at about £84 per hour. That's not taking into account tips and wax and interior extras. A place who have set themselves up properly can probably churn out a car a minute thus increasing their potential earnings.

You wouldn't get £7 from me for 5 minutes work

thinking about starting a hand car wash business, only really want to try it out at the weekends just now to gauge interest
it would be on land which is currently owned but only paying private council tax rates
obviously I'm going to contact the council/H+S about drainage etc but the main thing i'm worried about is having to pay business rates

Ok, have you considered the cost involved in supplying running water and electric.

For drainage you first port of call should be the local waterboard.

Business rates will be the local council.

You also need to check the the local council to make sure the site has the correct planning permission.

You'll need to contact the inland revenue to find out about registering yourself as self employed and find out the arrangments for doing PAYE & NI for your employees.

You will need liability insurance incase you damage someones car or one of your employees gets hurt.

You'll need to think about the cost of quipment, a halfords jet wash will probably break very quickly if used all day everyday (and the warranty won't cover professional use). You'll probably need more expensive proper kit.

Why am I only now thinking of the business potential of combining lap dancing and car wash, so a little bit further than women in bikinis.

They make a bit of a show of it, and you make a lot more money. Just need someplace where people don't mind mind paying over inflated prices for simple pleasures.

Around my area, there is a hand carwash every 100ft or so.

It literally is just car wash after carwash

which would make me think there was possibly a lot of money / work about... those carwash's would shut if no one wanted the service?
