toshiba mk8007gah 50 pin,

I have one of these from a very small sony laptop,

it has a female 50pin connector on the back (the oposite to what I would expect on an ide drive)

it also has hdd1584 written on it...

can someone give me some idea on what connector I need to attach this to a notmal PC to get the files off?

You can get 1.8" IDE to standard IDE convertors quite easily - plenty available for auction.

is it just a bog standard 1.8 to 3.5 adapter I need then?

Looks that way although I've not used one to be sure.
