I don't know what prompted me to post this thread, maybe it's the local traffic light GP with Corsas and Fiestas bouncing off rev limit in wait for the green light. Witnessed a ST220 doing the same yesterday, but why ?

Maybe they are under the illusion their car is 'fast' ?, or maybe it feels fast to them. I guess it's all relative, X car is slow compared with Y car but still very fast compared with Z. Are they trying to prove they are indeed fast ?

So the point of this thread, do you consider your car / or bike genuinely FAST ?, how should 'fast' be measured.

Should be interesting to see what everyones perceptions are...

Me, well, my bike i consider classed as 'fast', 0-175mph in around 13-14 secs I guess. She's no rocket ship by todays standards but still gets the adrenelin flowing (and the G forces make my watch run slow after a long ride).

If asked by a stranger 'is it fast?', I reply yes, it scares me stupid.

Huge question lol. I for one think the traffic light GP is completely stupid,

The best way of appreciating how fast your car is, is as follows. Spend the whole week driving a tractor that does 23mph top speed, then get into your car. It's like a rocket ship :p

I consider fast, to be anything that can pull you back in your seat, saddle.. whatever. Gives you that little buzz that goes '**** yeah' :D

Well you answered your own question really.
Speed and "fast" is all relative.

If we look at the super and hyper cars out there then no - my car is not particularly fast.
If you look at the high-performance vehicles then I'm getting close.
Compared to much of the "general production" vehicles then my car is quick.
All relative really.

I think a fast vehicle is one that will just pull no matter what speed you are going.

Many "fast" cars will do 130ish these days but it'll take an age to get there.

Going on the above 0-60 ratings i'd put mine in the "rapid" section...

What car is that out of interest ?

Over 100 is mental in a micra but not such a fuss in a bmw. Same as 100 would be fast in urban narrow streets but sedate on the motorway. So quality and environment can also effect the feel of how fast you are moving.

fast to me, is about acceleration.

Grip helps with that so 0-60 can be used as a barometer.

but a car with a poor 0-60 time can still have good in gear acceleration. Whichever way you cut it however, a car that does 0-60 in sub 4 seconds is fast.

A lot of it's perception. People tend to think when they are a passenger in my car that I drive very fast, whereas it just feels quicker than their more modern corsas, fiestas, etc when it's probably slower.

i spent a week driving an old VW camper 0-60 eventualy

back in my normal VW with an 8.6 to 60 and it feels fast..... next week it will no longer feel fast and i'll be back to wanting something faster.
