Job interview - salary question

Don't mention salary unless they ask, if they ask tell them what you expect. Simple.

If they think you're great and the best man for the job, but instead go for some douche who's happy to work for 3k less, that's their look out, sure they'll do well.

I'm presuming background checks in your industry are poor - if you tried pulling that sort of BS in say banking you'd certainly be risking your job.

I worked for an IFA and had an aweful lot of background checks

You could just say you lost your P45 and fill out a P46 (as someone mentioned in this thread)

If someone hands in a P46 HR will normally add a salary notification request to the list of things to check with the references.

A P46 means two things:

1. You lose important bits of paper
2. You are lying about your salary

I really wouldn't lie about your current salary in an interview.

All they are allowed to ask for is Job title and attendance (sick leave). They aren't allowed to ask salary. Doesn't mean they won't though...

i've a review coming up. i wanted to ask for a pay rise.

they will want to know why i should get one.

will they want this in writing normally? i.e all the points as to why or just a general statement?

Only if you work for ********* they'll want it in writing, i.e. trying to make it as difficult/time-consuming as possible for you, whilst minimising what they need to do.
