christmas came early for me :)

If you want speed and silence you should consider a non reference HD5870 such as the ASUS Matrix, Asus V2 or the Sapphire VapourX.

Even though you have the money for a GTX480 the premium isn't worth it IMO for an additional 8% performance plus you have to bear with the noisy Delta fan. Non reference GTX480 cards cost a bomb and make the HD5970 look like good value for money.

I would try and avoid multiple video card setups if you have the cash for a single fast card. SLI/Crossfire setups are always reliant on driver releases for support and performance fixes. Nvidia is slow at getting out drivers but they do work and AMD gives monthly driver updates but can be hit and miss in terms of reliability.

some good points ocuk don't sell the matrix yet do they?

personally having had 2 5870's and now have a 5970 i would get a 5870 (although im abit bias) for your res with a ncie overclock you should be able to take on crysis pretty well.

I think you may be best off sticking to a single gpu bigjimmy. 5850 or 5870 if you are wanting to stay with ATI?

One of these? :- http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-225-AS

Essentially it's a wolf in sheep's clothing. An undercover 5870, if you like. ;)

only problem i see with that is that it's not garunteed to overclock to 5870 speeds so i could end up with just a 5850

P:S if i ordered tonight could i get one on saturday delivery for the 3rd july?

ok been looking at benchies and stuff and a 5870 sounds about right for me i can always sell the 5770 i have to re-coup some cash.

ok so i'm made 5870 will order tonight but which one remember it needs to be quiet was looking at these 3

PCS ++
MSI TWIN FOZRIL
Which one out the 3, user experience would be good about now never even seen the 5870 lightning by msi before nor the pcs at 950 core tho looks like it could be a noisy little blighter.

None of them. If it was my dosh, I'd buy this:

why not get one more 5770 and run crossfire???

That would certainly be his most cost effective upgrade route. Roughly 4870X2 / 5870 performance. Not sure he wants more than one gpu though.

Someone also mentioned an Asus 5870, forgot about that one, £330 - not a bad price all considered, nice looks imo, and for overclocking I think he needs to consider them (Asus), as well as MSI and Powercolor.

Though price for performance, a 5850 is his best bet, and he would have plenty of cash left over with.

I believe you should just get the cheapest 5850 and save the rest for a future graphics card update. I know you want to run all the high graphics games at max, but there are only a few of them that need £300 + graphics solutions.

If you want to crossfire 2X 5770 it usually gives simular frames to a 5870 in crossfire friendly games. This is also a viable idea as a 5770 only needs one pci x connector.

Don't blow £500 on graphics card, resisttttttt!
