Awe-Inspiring Photographs of a Disappearing World

Over-rated imo - the originals would have been far more impressive - they all use the same cheap luma correction with a tiny hint of sepia hinting and vignette trick.

Got to love good photos of animals. I have loads of these 'magazines' which the daily mail (i think) used to give out at the weekend, Sundays (again i think :p)
Top quality photos on good paper.

EDIT: I'll get one ;) '100 greatest wildlife pictures ever'

You can get one of his books; they are on Amazon "On This Earth" and "A Shadow Falls". They are also MUCH cheaper than buying his prints which go for many, many thousands of dollars.

I'm currently having an e-mail conversation with him about the article. If he turns out to be a nice guy then I will buy his books as they look amazing.

If he's a ****-face then I'll let you all know!

For anyone that's interested Nick Brandt e-mailed me back with some sad news:

Hi Matt

Finally got to read article. Very good. Well done. The reason it took me a while to read as I have been engrossed with some very bad developments here in Amboseli.

Two days ago, yet another beautiful bull elephant was killed by Somali poachers (for the Chinese of course) just outside the park.

The elephants are now all so frightened that we cannot get within half a mile of them without them running in panic. They will no longer cross the lake bed as they are too frightened. I expect no new photos from this trip as a result. The rangers and Kenya Wildlife Service continue to do nothing. We believe it may be because they are involved in the poaching as well. It is beyond upsetting.

Meanwhle, confirmation that the lead beautiful female elephant from Elephants Walking Through Grass has been killed by poachers. And the elephant in Elephant Drinking was poisoned by poachers last year. Elephant with Tattered Ears was speared for a second time two months ago and has not been seen since. There are almost no elephants with big tusks left.

And finally, another ugly new development courtesy of the Chinese: there are now contracts out for zebra skins, the latest new fad in China.

Dark days.

thanks

Nick

Not to diminish the coolness of these photos, but they are heavily faked. Albeit the lions and animals are there, but dust, wind effect and lighting has been imposed over.
