. As i said it is personal as to whether a person feels the extra heat and power usage is worth it for an extra 10% performance not looked at prices for a while so no idea how the 480 and 5870 compare on that score but last i looked it was quite a difference. All the talk on forums and reviews sites are so exaggerated, they do not run as hot as ppl make out and if you have a decent case with cooling you have nothing to worry about like all video cards and cases

If two cards offered identical performance, getting one that costs more to run(I dunno, if on 24/7, what £10-20 a year, its barely anything and hardly worth considering but its still there), will pump out more heat into a hot room(for me a massive massive issue due to my god awful room in summer) which won't be a problem for most people, and it costs more.
) I can cope with having my GPU fan on 80-90%, which is very bloody loud! Add into that the GPU fan blending with your other case fans too and it's barely as loud as the website tests!Isn't there a optimized refreash out soon, without the cache ?
Should run loads cooler, and scale better for smaller sizes.
I doubt it will be a refreshed (reworked) core, I think would be built from bad cores with the memory disabled to make them functional.
I think the GTX485 is the originally planed 512 core version of Fermi that would run hotter and only be availble in very limited number. I seem to remember Nvidia said they would need 18-24 months to have enough cards to launch the 512 sp GTX485.
One thing that cheeses me off, is when you buy something, to find out had you waited 2-3 months, something better for the same money would have been available.
Thats why I dont know if I should get any new card now, or wait for he ATI 6000 series...
There's always something better in the pipeline m8. Any of the top end cards available now will still play games fine. If you're happy to wait then fair enough but don't forget, when the new tech comes out it'll cost top dollar. Wait too long and you'd never buy anything. My card still cuts through most things I play, well virtually all titles in fact.
