New car time - been a long time

The cheeky ****** tried to tell me it was then just a case of me getting the thing back to them (100 miles). I wont risk a ban telling you what I told him

Cheeky ****

I'd be going spare if it happened to me.. If id just handed over £20k I think id want to cry!

we do tend to put a lot of trust in your dealers, I'm lucky that mine for the past year or so have been spot on so far. (no bad for a cheap make)

No local dealers with something suitable in stock?

We are looking for replacements now, slightly soured the whole experience ATM though.

The worst part of it all is how stupid I feel, there's simply no way I could deal with them again never mind walk into the dealership and potentially be face to face with the bloke that despite being as nice and polite as he was, clearly took me for nothing but a total mug.

Aye, despite it being mis-sold to us. We both really liked the scirocco. Had it been priced accordingly and made know to us thing may have been different. As it stood though we paid For a GT at GT prices and got, well tbh I don't know what we got really.

Well we got email confirmation that they will refund us the full price we paid and that they will assume responsibility for collection, I acknowledged their intent via a return email which (iirc) make it a binding letter of intent.

Just need to wait for the V5 now.

I have just skim read this thread and thought I would add something thats probably pretty irrelevant so here goes!

I do not like the boot hinges at the top sticking out like they do. apart from that I think they look really neat :)

Well we've found a replacement, they are holding it for us whilst the other mess is sorted out, I admit to being rather nervous about the whole buying thing now though.

The difference between an actual UK GT and what we got is simply astounding at it's making me feel even more stupid for not doing more research into such an expensive purchase, my wife takes the Mick out of me because it takes me weeks / months to buy something as simple as a drill or toaster and I don't know why my usual thorough self didn't translate to this :(

LOAM, sorry for you. Don't worry yourself any further though.

You didn't check things out because you felt protected buying from a dealer. Turns out you were (all be it by TS) and you've been offered a full refund, the only thing you've lost is time and perhaps some pride.

True enough. Would be nice to have It resolved though, come on dvla.....

I have a question though, the new one we've found hasn't got cruise control, it's an my10 model and the dealer can't retro fit it, awesome GTI in Stoke though can for £117 + vat and it's all genuine vag parts, will it effect the warranty in any way ?

If you're not in a major rush then I'd wait for a model with all the features you want to appear. Not that retrofitting is the end of the world, but when you're dumping a load of money on a car... you may aswell get one that ticks all the boxes from the outset. Bit more peace of mind in terms of warranty also.

Assuming it is a VW dealer they are talking rubbish they can retro fit cruise on it VW offer fixed price fitting at £150 ish inc vat. I would be asking for this to be fitted free as part of the deal.

If the original dealer was an authorised VW dealer I would report them to VW UK on 0800 0833 920.

It is an Auth VAG dealer and they do fit them but cars built after week 45 have something different to EMS. It can be done but the dealers can't do it yet, I've spoken to a couple of dealers who have all said this to me.

Thanks for the number Dave, the new one is from a different dealer but rest assured once this is all over everybody who needs to know about what's happened will do.

Just checked they are right about the cruise after week 45 they changed the design of the stalks they now all come in one unit meaning it is more expensive than just changing the indicator stalk to retro fit the cruise control the parts needed are.

Stalks - 5K0 953 502C £75
depending on spec of the car maybe a steering wheel control module - 5K0 953 569H £150

Dealers can code this as Awesome use the same VAS tool as the dealer. I would have a word with the dealer lead tech I bet they can do this but not as a pack from VW. The more common Vagcom/VCDS software available to the public hasn't been updated yet to support the new steering wheel control module so it can't code them.

Update :- V5c arrived this morning, scanned and emailed to the dealer, refund should be coming Monday and they will be collecting early next week, have a family do a week on Sunday and might have the new one in time to travel up in.

Nearly over, just hope refund goes ok now.

cars been collected, cash is back in the bank, so glad this sorry episode is over, in the next few days they will be getting both angry barrels from me to their groups HQ and VQ UK as well.

Cant fault the manager chap that's dealt with it since the initial query but it shouldn't have ever happened.

On the plus side, new car time (again)
