VW Bluesport - Upmarket MX-5?

The MX5 has been the bench-mark for this end of the Roadster market for 20 years now, the likelihood of VW actually producing a better version is fairly slim imho. If it is in the S2k price-bracket, it will struggle against the Honda and Porsche are not going to quake at the prospect of a VW going to bat against the Boxster because the badge-porn of the Porsche will destroy the VW.

Fact is diesel cars can be high performance and efficient, petrol cars can not offer the best of both worlds so well.

For me, just so you know there are people like this out there, petrol cars do offer the best. MPG means nothing to me, nor does CO2 emissions and doesnt make any difference in the cars I'm looking at. I would be more inclined if they had a 2.0TFSI or something along those lines. Its a very nice car.

The name "Blue"sport suggests it's going to be an efficient car, and there is massive pressure on car companies to produce such a product. Fact is diesel cars can be high performance and efficient, petrol cars can not offer the best of both worlds so well.

I agree with this, but any true petrol head would never consider purchasing a two seater sports car with a diesel engine. It totally defeats the purpose, it doesnt matter how powerful the engine is, it is all about the noise you get with the roof down and the way you can rev the nuts off a petrol engine.

Thus, people buying this with the diesel engine (and maybe people buying the petrol too) will be posers.

This car is too over complicated too, regenerative braking and the "stop start function" - presumably to hide the fact your driving a diesel when you pull upto the lights :p

Saying that, it is a good looking car :)

And its owners will think they are the best and they will fit fake Audi wheels from Ebay to it.

lol, even 13 year old MX-5s are still pretty good, nothing VW can do will be as good especially if they throw in their blue eco derv engines into it. but no doubt the mindless VW loving drones will lap it up cos omg its only £85 a year in tax or some other false economy

Strange, when I eventually see one on the road I can already feel the confusion of a roadster making tractor noises

Funny how different manuufacturers are looking at different ways to make eco sports cars, VAG just stick a diesel in, Honda are using hybrid petrols which I personally prefer and Toyota are yet to confirm what they are doing with the FT-86 but looks like a Subaru boxer co-developed petrol engine

Toyota are yet to confirm anything, about anything

We have rumours of the FT86, the hybrid MR2, the Hybrid Supra, and so on all being in development "possibly"

I could see it being brilliant at everthing but one, i.e. the stats will be good (performance, fuel economy), it'll have a nice interior, but it'll be as dull as ditchwater to drive. So, perfect for hairdressers, hopefully leaving the petrolheads to buy an MX5.
