there's always the chance of something going wrong, even with just flashing a new FW on a dvd drive or something.

if you follow the guides and are patient (don't yank your battery out or anything) then it should be fairly safe.

doesn't take 10 mins to do the whole process.

i was wary, till i saw a video of it on youtube. that made me do it since the guides sometimes just read as more complicated than it is
 
My Desire is rooted, but I can't seem to get BusyBox installed - It tells me the phone is rooted, but then fails with an error saying "your device is not nand unlocked or we were unable to remount". I'm trying to get Titanium Backup installed (as it's a pain switching between ROMs), but it seems it needs BusyBox...

Ideas appreciated! :)
 
how did you root? did you flash a rom afterwards?

Custom roms have busybox built in IIRC so flash a new rom first like MCR 3.1 or Sparta or something then do your stuff.
 
Yeah I've flashed OpenDesire a couple of times (waiting for the wireless fix at the moment so I'm back to 2.1), so I'm pretty sure it's rooted properly. BusyBox also tells me it's rooted, so I'm a little confused.

I rooted using TinyCore
 
How does Launcher Pro work if you haven't rooted?

Will it just take SenseUI off and replace with Launcher Pro or can I select between which one I want to use when switching the phone on etc

It just replaces the Sense Launcher, which is just an app. No need to root.

You can switch between the two by going to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications, finding the launcher app (either Launcher Pro or HTC Sense), and clicking Clear default. The next time you press Home, you'll be prompted with the app to use.
 
Loving my desire already, so much better than my Nokia N95.

Made me lol though when it added all my facebook friends numbers to my contact list though
 
How do I remove Twitter contacts from my Google Account? They seem to have been synced during one of my ROM tests and I personally know about 5% of the people I follow on Twitter.
 
lol case and screen cover ordered should come tomorrow. Boss giggled at me when I wiped the phone out in big wooly sock!!

Loving the desire glad I upgraded from the iPhone :)
 
Something wrong with battery usage on my Desire.

Been unplugged for 9 hours, and down to 21%. Battery use shows that Camera has used 68%, and Maps 30%. I haven;t used wither today, and they aren't running tasks!!

Using Sparta, and kernel is 2.6.29-bravo-oc-r14. Is that the kernel with power issues?
 
I moved from the sparta rom and tried Pays Desire sense bravesoul 2.0 and i am finding the battery life to be far better so far, still using launcherpro.
 
has anyone out of interest gone back to the stock build after rooting?

and is there away i can remove my tmobile boot up screen without rooting?
