Facebook Saddos @ BBC Sport

I'd take a guess that a few people on here aren't using facebook due to it's popularity and now feel non-conformist, similar to people abandoning their favourite band as soon as they become 'mainstream'.

/flees :P

Why is this a problem??? Lots of people do this as its a good way to keep up to date with who ever.

We even have it on our company website

First and foremost they are both private companies and _not_ web standards. You don't actually need them in order to make your views known to the BBC, and yes, they are promoting them ad infinitum. The BBC was perfectly well able to connect with its viewers with good old e-mail and "contact us" forms (or even BBC blogs).

Good job you don't run a business tbh. You sound like a tool.

I have a Friendface account, that I check a few times a week.

The key is not not sign up to the spammy applications and ignore all feature requests, so you keep all communication limited to private messages or notifications. I couldn't give a toss if you found a lost sheep :p

I've just found someone in their late 40s/early 50s on facebook who my family hasn't spoken to since they moved to the UAE about 8 years ago, it took approximately 3 minutes worth of googling. That is why facebook is good.

If in doubt about facebook try looking up your profile from another PC and then you can see how much information you are actually giving away.

I can't deactivate mine :( I had the facebook developer app, and I can't deactivate while I'm the sole developer of the app, but it won't let me delete the api key just comes back with an error. Good way to stop people deactivating I suppose lol. And no way of contacting facebook directly just reading the faqs and 'help' sections.

Don't both with Facebook if your just on the verge of joining and use these forums. It comes back and bites you in the ass at least once (eg OMG!1!1! OCUK DETECTIVES INTIATE"). :o

Spot on, exactly how I use it, for communication. You dont have to accept everyone that requests you and you can ignore all the crap so it doesnt bother you again, its all under your total control.

I still dont really get what this thread is about, facebook and twitter links are all over the internet as at a click of a mouse you can share information, surely thats what the internet is all about

Whilst I use Facebook pretty much daily, I don't install apps or anything like that, and keep it to people I actually know. I find it great to keep in tocuh with friends who are rubbish at keeping in touch. Furthermore over 80% of my friends don't live in London. Addtionally 20% of my friends don't even live in the UK so it makes it nice and easy to keep in touch that way.

It's easier and quicker than typing out an email to all of them regularly - and it's far more visual. It's nice to share pics of nights out or parties or places you've been with people you care about that can't be with you.

The majority of my family don't live in the UK either so again it's a great way to keep tabs on what's going on in their lives - sure we chat on Skype from time to time, but at least this way you get live data and a feel of what's going on with their lives on a day to day business. All big news clearly, you know about far sooner.

So, yes I use Facebook, but I use it for the use that I need from it. Keeping in touch with friends and family that I can't see regularly - it's made keeping in touch with people easier, and if anything has brought a lot of my friends and family in a better state of contact. It's good to embrace things which are helpful - rather than snub things because you're not interested in it.
