TomTom iPhone Car Kit and App

Nope, full install, for tomtom and co-pilot - there are some "online" features you can use like traffic etc, but for the basic job of navigation its full install of the maps.

Do the Sat Nav apps use the web? Roaming Charges make me cry :(

I thought they did until I had read a review. I figured they used 3G or some such but nope, just use the GPS installed for Sat Nav. ;)

Shame as the day before I had ordered a stand alone Sat Nav. Ah well might pick up an App like CoPilot, N Drive or TomTom just in case. :o

sorry for the hijack :p

so what you're saying that if i buy the co pilot app and use it in say, france, that i wont get hit with roaming charges?

I know google nav is out for android and its on its way for the iPhone not sure when tho

but it will prob just data unless it saves the maps so you could download the u.k at home or something like the nokia sat-nav app

but unless you need the app now might be worth waiting as long as you can and see what pops up for free.

I can't confirm as I haven't brought a sat nav app yet but what confirmed my thoughts were that you can get the TomTom Car kit and App for the iPod Touch so I can only think that it uses the GPS inside the car kit. ;)

Shouldn't do, but to be on the safe side you could always turn the roaming off. Should still allow for the locations services to be on, which is all the app needs AFAIK.

Turn data roaming off and you'll be fine regardless of what apps are running or accidental press of safari etc. They use data, but not for location or maps, they use it for 'live' features, such as traffic and fuel prices etc.
