How long untill SkyHD is subscription free?

With sky also here have on hd box,one + and a normal box two multirooms with the full package costing a small fortune, like others here going to be cancelling the sports and films as seen most of them anyways, will save me a little bit if nothing else.

I got SkyHD the other day... put on Sky1 HD.... oh look it's Stargate but it's not actually HD, just has great big black borders on the sites. Same with a lot of other programs on Sky channels. What a joke

Yes, that really was a joke. Simpsons and futurama were the same on Sky 1 HD. I'd much rather have it stretched to 16:9 then 4:3 HD. I hated the black bars down the side, not too fussed about them being top and bottom, but at the sides. no.

Ended up watching Sky 1 HD, when I did actually watch it in SD. Movies in HD was ok, but repeated so often, I got bored of watching Iron Man etc..

Better off without Sky, as said too expensive. Seems a lot on here going to cancel or have cancelled or removed channels etc... You'd think sky would get the message - you're too expensive.!! I told them this when I cancelled, didn't seem to care, not that I was going to stay anyhow.

And, just how many times do I need to say NO? I ended up saying to the chap in the phone, how many times is NO to be heard in your script before you stop asking me if I do want to cancel? I then said, no no no no no and then he said - ok you want to cancel and put the cancel straight through..

Is it possible to get Sky Sports HD on Virgin yet? As soon as this is possible then Sky can do one as Virgin internet is the shiznit.

Sky are a evil evil company that get away with it due to lack of real competition
I hate them but if you want tv you can't leave as there's no real alternative (I can't get virgin)

No chance we were paying for a Sky package here - but, equally, I swore I'd never use Virgin again after the unusable internet connection we had off them 2 years ago. Just paid a one off £50 for a FreeSat HD box, which does all we need, already had a dish installed at the flat we moved in to. That and £1.30/month for 20mbit internet (shortly to go up to £9, boo), done :)

We have SkyHD and we have all of the various channel packages. Works out at around £70 a month or something, not really sure to be honest.

Personally we see it as good value for money as it covers the huge majority of what we watch. I suppose other people dont consider it value for money but then one persons value is another persons rip off and vice versa.

I just recently wangled a deal with Virgin for £65 a month, which includes nearly unlimited yapping time on the phones, all channels on the tele, HD, films/tv on demand and 10MB internet.

Not quite a bad deal compared to what I was paying with Sky.

Just seen that Virgin are getting Sky Sports HD soon. This has quite literally made my day and as soon as my Sky contract expires I'll be back to Virgin. Far superior service to Sky in every way :)

Freeview HD and the Internet, what more do you need.......

Freeview HD reception - currently only half the country can get it but you can always go the Freesat route which nearly everyone can receive.

I don't watch much TV these days, maybe a couple of hours in the evening, maybe a bit more if there's a film I want to watch or the world cup, Freesat suits me down to the ground. I do miss the documentary channels on Sky - American Choppers, Mythbusters and all the history programmes but my currant setup costs me zero pounds a month so I'm happy.

What gets me with Sky is the sports packages, its about £26 PCM for Sky Sports and I know most of that £26 has come about as a result of the money Sky is ploughing into TV rights for over paid Premiership footballers. Now I don't really like football but I do like Cricket and Darts and would love to watch them but the cost would be to subsidise Premiership TV rights which I don’t want to watch.

Its £26 a month for Sky Sports? Really, now that is a rip off. I can only hope that Sky never get exclusive rights to Formula 1.

Honestly, I agree with them being a right evil company. Glad to be shot of them... Can't get virgin in my area and freeview only works if I upgrade my aerial...

no it's £18 a month for sports and they always have 2 months for half price offers. I currently have it for £3 per month for 2 months.

Why not call sky and ask for an offer? I do every 2 months and always get through to a friendly person in less than 30 seconds (excluding the 2 minutes of connecting and putting in some details) and ask if they have anything for me. Currently have the above sports offer and 12 month free line rental which is £11 per month.

Call them, be friendly and ask ;)

Assuming you were saying no to me...

it scares me how much people pay for Cable/Satellite TV.
I reviewed what i was wasting because i rarely watch TV these days and i was still spending 40 quid at the end of the day.
Mates of mine think nothing of spending £100+ a month..
Isnt Free-view starting to do HD stuff too soon??

It scares me how much people pay to drink alcohol in a pub each month.

People pay for what they enjoy.

They aren't stupid.. they charge large amounts for the movies & sports packs, because they know most people will have one.

We went from Sky World (every channel), cancelled all the other "mixes" but left movies & sports and we only dropped £4

Got a point there, colleague at work goes out at least twice a week clubbing, spends easily £40+ each night he does that. Probably well in excess of £200 a month just clubbing.

Does nothing at all for me, if asked I would say its a rip off and poor value for money. On the other hand, he loves it. However, he declares that me paying monthly for an MMO is a rip off and poor value for money. Swings and roundabouts.
