Manhunt in Northumbria on BBC

its nice that hes not coming after billy joe and mr smith any time soon, well maybe until he changes his mind....maybe hes a terminator sent back in time with a loopy switch?

He's not a terrorist though. The SAS aren't going to find him any quicker, they'd be working with the same information.

I would expect the SAS to be better trained at finding someone in the middle of no-where than whatever police they have there, and who is to say they can't class him as a terrorist, after all ... what is a terrorist?

All they can do is wait for any further information about his whereabouts to come in and keep searching in the meantime. The SAS or anyone else aren't going to be able to magically home in on his position. There's absolutely no need whatsoever for military involvement in an incident like this, it sets an incredibly dangerous precedent and it's one of the reasons we have a (non-military) police service in the first place.

There were reports that he was accessing the internet, which means he can be tracked ... maybe not real time, but at least to see where he is moving to/from

There is no reason why we cannot use military for the hunt, after all they (along with anti-terror police) & MI5 are probably the best trained for this sort of task

My thinking is that he is no where near the place now...

If he wants to kill Police officers, particularly ones from that force then he would know where they are because the news are always updating us, so he would have killed more by now surely.

unlikely he would go to the place where the police are on cameras .....all he would have to do is park his car on double yellow lines and there will be a cop car round pretty sharpish to issue a ticket :p

The police can get that information too. It simply isn't feasible to make the military involved unless absolutely necessary. I hate to say it, but this isn't a particularly major incident when all said and done and it'd be very embarrassing for the police to have to say that they can't cope themselves. They're given millions of pounds to protect the public, they're expected to be able to do it. The military/SAS/Jack Bauer isn't going to be concerned with one man threatening police officers.

i dont think the military would do a better job....the police have men on the ground asking questions(seeking his where abouts) what they do best and they will find him quicker and when they do i cant see this guy being a match for armed police officers....he aint rambo.

The military could use it as a training op though

Training for what? A scenario they're never going to encounter. Military personnel are trained (purposefully) for a different environment and different enemy. Again, this is why we have a police service. It's not a military operation and it doesn't need to be, it's not like he's been slipping through the net for weeks already.

The special forces teams would certainly have a "person of interest is on the run, track and capture him" scenario ... just like SAS have a hostage rescue scenario, despite being a military and not a "police" unit.

I have to say, our police seem to be pretty crap
You would think that we must have counter terrorism units, and folks like the SAS, who are trained to find and kill/capture people like this

Without wishing any offence rypt, please try to consider the sheer scale of this enquiry before labelling the police as crap.

If you feel you can run this enquiry better then do contact Northumbria's SIO on this case with your wisdom.

Problem is that their in london protecting all the rich people, that pay for the political parties. The number of armed reaction police outside of the London and surrounding districts is woefully low, halve the item they have to combine forces to take on suspect targets.
Rubbish, the number of AFO's each for has is quite high for the amount of firearm related crime. There is a difference between the amount of routinely deployed ARV's and the amount of AFO's available to a force.

Spot in really, non of us have any idea of the intelligence the police are working with.

its a huge area with miles of miles of bugger all there...it borders the national park with the simonside hills and the cheviots...its no suprise he can vanish as the manpower required to blanket the whole area will be just too great

he cannot hide forever and eventually he will be spotted by somebody, its always the way..he's not rambo,he a bouncer who occasionaly went camping. Give him a couple of days in the rain up there and he will not remain hidden

(there are also live firing ranges for the forces about 8 miles west of rothbury..no people at all but a whole lot of other risks involved)
