WD TV Live

You can't play a BD disk from the drive in the pc if that is what you want to do.
It iwll play 1080p files, MKV, etc, but not a movie straight from a disk. You have to rip it to storage first.
Once that's done wifi (n) should be fine for 1080p

not good...any other way I could do that then ??

I don't know of any. If that's what you want to do then the WDTV Live aint for you mate i'm afraid. Its a great media player for sure, but it can only play media that resides on storage.

Only other way (inpractical in your case) really is to hook the pc to your hdtv via hdmi (long length) and maybe use a wireless keyboard/mouse/remote to operate the pc from your tv room.

Seems like too much of a faff though.

yeah....no way im drilling holes in wales to get hdmi cable to a TV ;)

Can PS3 get access to a PC to play .avi files, jpg files etc ?
Maybe I should get it and use it as a b'ray player as well .... miss wont be happy with the idea of another game console ;D

A 20 metre HDMI cable to link the PC to the television would cost £100+,
It would be cheaper buying a WD HD Live and USB storage.

I ruled out long cable at the beginning anyway ;)

and I do not see myself ripping blurays into HDD etc...
PS3 or maybe other b'player will have to do....

thanks guys for advice :)

Yeah, i've tpyed with replacing the WDTV Live with a PS3, as it's a good media player AND a blu-ray.....oh and it plays the odd game of two. :)

I just got my WD live today, (i'm at work and cant wait to go home to play)

Ayway i've been googling and am i right in saying that with wont show folder art if i connect it to my NAS?

I'll be very gutted if this is the case.

ah nice one, thanks mate.

also has anyone had a go with the movie sheet update?

Are they easy to install? ever done anything like this, will that work with a NAS?

Well it's in, no folder jpg's but other than that i love it! Quality is better than my DVD player!

Good times!!

I've been well chuffed with mine in the bedroom. The Mrs now loves it, at first she couldn't get to grips with it (technophobe!).

I'm still loving mine, SLOWLY getting through my DVD collection..... :o

Anyway i need some help, I've been using make MKV and its going well, I've decided to start on my SG1 box sets. Make mkv sees all the episodes as 1 file and i want 1 episode as 1 file.

What else can i use, i dont want to loose quality (video or audio)?

Thanks for the help.

they dont show on the top 2 levels of folders, its been a bug since day 1 - move folders around to solve problem.

moviesheets are easy and do work with NAS. i might do some youtube vids on it at some point for those intersted aswell as xmount etc.

Do full firmware updates, and the next realse should allow it, It is due within about 2 weeks or so.
lol...you pulled that from your bum didnt you?
WD are very bad when it comes to updating things people actually want. i doubt were ever see an official fix.

No, I didn't, the fix is already in the beta released firmware which you can get on the wdtvlive forums now as we speak. Its been there for several weeks during the followup testing and feedback.
The last word from one of the crew was it would likely be deployed in a couple of weeks. That might slip, but who knows. I'll await the official release rather than install the beta firmware if its that close to launch.
I have minimal issues now thankfully.

Turned my WDTV Live on last night to do the latest firmware (1.03) as its currently on 1.02, but it didn't find any, saying it was up-to-date. (???)

Not had that before, anyone know why?
