Which hard drive for a clone?

Hello everyone. My mom and dad have just got a new computer, its got a 320gb HDD and win7. Which HDD would you suggest for making a clone of thier current one in case of any problems in the future?

Is this ok?

Just backup the whole OS, you will not need 500Gb as it is only likely to be around the 40gb mark maximum!
