1.5TB v 3 x 500gb

3 drives will be faster (assuming you RAID 0) but the trade-off is if you loose one of the 3 drives, you loose the data.

Also, 3 drives will use more power than 1 - obviously :-)

I would personally go for a single 1.5TB drive.

I agree with andy, I'd go for the 1.5tb drive. I currently have 3 x 500GB drives and it's just confusing having to look at all 3 for data.

If your board supports it (most new ones do) you can use 3x500GB drives to make a 1TB RAID 5 array, this will give you increased performance over a single drive and redundancy in case a drive fails

Can I just give another view on this.

Most cases people say if you lose 1 of the 3 drives you lose all your data, where thats true, it also applies to the single option, Lose it you lose all your data.

This is where My view is probably different and (probably incorrect so if someone could confirm this I'd appreitaite it). If your using 3x HDD, your spreading the load, so each drive is working 1/3 of what the single drive would be doing.

1x 1.5TB 100% Load.
3x 500GB 33% Load.

To me this means the chance of one of the raid 0 drives failing less is then the single drive.

Sorry if this isn't anything to do with your topic or if this information is incorrect, but I just wanted to give an alternative view.

If look about some places are offering 2 x 1.5TB HDD for not much over a ton. These packages provide really good savings shame ocuk never jump on this band wagon for some reason

cheers guy`s but now i AM confused i havent a clue about (RAID) setups and wouldnt know where to start!
Im not too bothered about total speed of my PC as i am about stabillity and smooth GAME PLAY mainly (MW2) so would i be better off getting say a Western Digital VelociRaptor 74GB 10000RPM SATA-II 16MB Cache for the (OC and MW2) and a 1 tb 7200rpm for storing movies, music, photos, and other files. or would that not work?

This is what ive got so far.....

ASUS M4A79-T Deluxe
AMD Phenon x4 955 Black Edition (stock cooler)
Corsair 4GB (2x 2048MB) TW3X4G1600C9D 1600MHz DDR3 Dual Channel
Corsair 650TX psu
HIS RADEON HD 4850 GPU
No Hard drives
No Case
No OS

Don't bother with Velociraptors.

The 1.5TB drives are mostly 5400rpm, I think Seagate do a 7200rpm one but it's not as good as a Samsung F3. Hard drives only improve load times for games, nothing else, so with COD the game would load a little bit faster and that's all.

Having more disks is better as a drive can only do one thing at a time so even downloading slowly can make your OS, apps and games less responsive if they're all on the same disk. Maybe get a 500GB F3 for OS/Games and another drive for storage/download/imaging the OS, games on same drive as OS won't have any disadvantage.
