Boring Car Update...

My (otherwise standard) silver MK3 2.5 V6 Ghia X is gaining a set of Eibach springs on monday.

As it's a pre-facelift, I'm looking at doing a similar kind of retrofitting. Really depends how it sits with the new springs and the standard 17's as to how far I want to go with it.

How much did it cost for your wheels refurbishing?

Being a Zetec-S I assume it has the 5 spoke alloys?

I was warned about them corroding around the air valve :(

Mine all have corrosion around the valve, but this one is really bad and looks terrible, they also have a few scuffs. :(

I paid £220 to have them powder coated, if I could have them done again I would actually get them painted as they can fill any pitting/corrosion in. My wheels looked just like yours, the PC finish is 100 times better, but still looks ever so slightly pitted around the valves on each of the wheels.

roadworthy is a very strong word to be throwing about.

There are least 2 others on this board who have retrofitted the facelift rear lights without the bumper and pass an MOT every year. There are no stipulations in the MOT test that the reflectors be there. In fact, i dont think it mentioned in the highways etc.. and is a horrible grey area

just like the retrofitting of HIDs into projector headlights.

Been as the other members didnt get singled out for such treatment however. One can only conclude you are on one

It'll pass because those lights look standard so even if it is on the MOT test (can't remember for certain, but pretty sure it is) 99% of testers won't even bother to check. You'd need a darkened room and a torch to test that so unless you give them reason to look closer (like turning up in a barried shed with illegal tints) they're not going to even think of it.

The issue is violating construction & use regulations which frankly you're almost never going to get pulled on unless it's bloody obvious or the subject of a current crackdown (eg. HIDs)

Probably the first time it will cause a problem is when it's left overnight on an unlit road and someone drives into the back of it then holds you liable.

Not updated this thread for ages.

Bought a Roverron Box (Tuning box that plugs into fuel rail jobbie) cheap, fitted it and removed it within a couple of weeks, too many horror stories on the owners forums!

Painted the insides of my headlights black (pictured below) but have since removed them and fitted some OEM Xenons (Cheers SoLiD!).

I also ordered some Hubcentric spacers to fill out the rear arches a little bit, however the centre bore was incorrect so i'm waiting for a replacement set.

Pictures are not up to date as i have removed the Di-Noc mirror covers, front window tints and "Black Eye" headlights...

/edit - Window tints look Limo Black there but they are not :)

The de-chav working is coming along nicely, lights are much better but of course will fail an MOT after 2012 so be careful with that.

All thats left now is to remove the 'broken spring or two fat girls in the back' suspension look and it'll be a nice car :)

Suspension is staying, it looks lower than it is because the wheels are tucked so far under the rear arch, they stick in by about 25-30mm.

Not too fussed about the headlights, if they fail i've got the original headlights in the loft and its a 10 minute job to swap them over.
