***Official Final Fantasy XIV Thead***

Have always loved FF games and the idea of an FF MMO appeals as long as it is not the normal Asian grind fest that you generally get from that neck of the woods.

From looking at the website can you level as being merely a crafter or from a profession? Thats the impression I got though I get the feeling I may have grasped the wrong end of the nettle

Is anyone else having real issues with the beta download? I wasn't expecting it to be a lightning-fast download, but it's really struggling to get over 10Kb/s and frequently dropping to nothing. Pretty steady 35Kb/s upload, but it's been on well over 14 hours now and not much past 30%

Yeah its hella slow, most are downloading it via the torrent which is giving better speeds.

I think its been confirmed that, like War or Magic classes, you can raise your physical level while you craft alongside raising your skill level in whatever craft you use.

SE did say quite awhile back that they're trying to make crafting just as engaging and thorough as the Disciplines of War/Magic classes, however I can't see how thats possible tbh. Unless they make a huge load of quests with heavy exploration then I can't see it competing with a fighting class in terms of abilities/skills/party roles and getting people together etc.

Still it will be far better than FFXI crafting though.

That's working well, much faster! One problem though, the official tracker is denying requests, probably because a login's needed. Anyone know how I can use my beta login details to enable this tracker? I'm using uTorrent, if that helps.

Leve's. There will be many many many of them, and this is the main way to level crafting classes. Thankfully though, this time normal mobs can drop HQ crafting mats that anyone can collect.

There will be a lot of crafting abilities that effect various parts of crafting I doubt they will play a massive part in parties apart from the fact that PC's can repair gear to 100% quality via player gathered items where as NPC's can only repair to 50%.

Awesome, just got an email saying I have been accepted for the Beta, first time I've ever been accepted for a Beta aswell.

Whats the best way to go about getting the client and setting it all up?

Check the beta tester forum and all the info you need will be there.

Damn so jealous :( I'm such a big final fantasy / MMORPG fan, played FF11 for 3 years and wanted this beta so bad but didn't get in grr..

Currently looking at upgrading 2 PC's in the house for this, think a Radeon 5850 would be fine or go for a GTX?

Hmmmm, I'm trying to login to the tester site but it's saying I can't, but the email says the test site is only available sometime during Tuesday 13th July which is tomorrow. Does that mean I can only start downloading the client and setting everything up tomorrow?

wow i just got one to !

cant log in yet but the email says to try later in the day if you cant login yet so guess i just wait

Sweet, Gonna give this a try.

I'd set up the client as early as possible if I were you, the torrent download failed miserably here - downloaded fine, but running the patcher completely ignored it and started from the last time I closed it. No idea how to get the fully-formed download to register, so I'm having to stick with the client, and speeds are truly retarded. It's been running at an average of 1Kb/s all day, with a constant 40Kb/s upload - it'll take days to finish. I don't know if it's a crap client or BT's throttling p2p traffic, but even at BT's worst it was never this bad. I'm expecing it to take another 2 days or so, unless things improve for a while.

So are there allocated time periods when you can play the beta? So it's only available for a few days at a time? Or can you play it when you want, like, is the beta always available now, and they close it every so often and invite more people?

Also, is there anywhere I can find the client to download now so I can start playing ASAP? As the tester site isn't open yet.

Only place to download the client is from the tester site which is open and has been for a while.

Also thanks to who ever posted the test times, I couldn't find them on my emails anywhere.
