UK Fire Arms Certificate

single shot, Double barrel, and pump action shotguns with a capacity up to either three or five (i can't remember) can go on a shotgun license

Bolt Action Rifles of any calibre up to and including .50BMG, as well as pump action shotguns with a capacity of up to nine shells, and semi-automatic rifles chambered in .22LR only, and handguns with barrels longer than (i think) 16 inches, can go on a section 3 Firearms Certificate.

Semi and fully automatic weapons of calibre other than .22LR, Handguns with barrels shorter than (i think) 16 inches, as well as grenades, rocket launchers, flame throwers and the like are section 5 weapons, and require specific dispensation from, as far as i can remember, the Home Secretary Him/Herself.

however, Suppressors are completely unregulated, which is nice. :)

No pistols no fully autos, I had a fac and a .17hmr high velocity rifle with supersonic rounds for range and hunting. Had to join a club and also for hunting have suitable land cleared by the police

Aswel as a lengthy application time of 6 months, vigorous security checks, I also held a shotgun cert and shotgun at the time of application

I thought all shotguns that can hold more than 2 cartridges are banned?

It would be illegal to own without a license and you won't likely be granted one for a semi automatic 9mm pistol or military rifle without a very good reason.

Very good reason being say a company that manufactures them for the military/export or perhaps you're some former IRA supergrass who has been issued a 9mm as there is a reasonable chance that some armed men might actually try to break into your home and kill you.

Can you recommend a decent UK Firearms seller with web site I can visit for a browse?
 
Most don't list on a site, your better off going to the shop in person

Instead of going to a shop, why not find a club first and take a visit, it will be a while before you will need to look at buying just yet :)

Yeah its 2 diff certs for Shotgun and S1 FAC.

Edit: the certificates may also restrict the amount of ammo you are allowed to store as well.

Correct, exept for air rifles, proper section 1 firearm need an fac licence which are harder to obtain than a sgc
