***Official Final Fantasy XIV Thead***

So does this part of the beta still have allocated testing/playing times like those posted here previously or is it going to be open/available to play for a while now until they close/update it again?

Edit: Downloading the client now, this is painful, it's downloading at speeds between 1KB/s and 30KB/s, it's going to take ages, and then to go along with that, it's slowing down the rest of my internet connection so web pages are taking forever to load and so essentially I can't use the internet while it's downloading.

C'mon Square, in this day and age surely there's some more efficient/faster way to download a damn game client, whats with the slowness with this one?

Guys! I forgot to post last night regarding the torrent!

If you look in Documents >My Games > FF14 > somewhere in here, you will find a torrent file you can use to download the patch file.

Once downloaded stick it in the "patch" folder one level above where you found the torrent and start the downloader again and you will start DL'ing the next patch. Cancel the downloader and open the new torrent, rinse and repeat.

Win.

Hope this helps.

Yes, I would imagine Phase 1 and 2 of Beta will have specific time which will increase in duration and frequency gradually until Phase 3 will will probably be closed Beta but available all the time, SE haven't decided if they will have an Open Beta which is a good thing IMO as people don't play Open Betas to give feedback.

As for the download speeds SE are terrible for this, the FF11 updates took forever as well. Tis a shame :(

Got to be the slowest download of any beta I've been in..

Got 75% done and they've released a new version of the game files...

I've tried downloading the torrent via utorrent but it won't connect to the seeds since the tracker is wrong - anyone know a way to get round this ?

new patch lol

H2010.07.12.2000

Indeed, I started that downloading this morning, I have read there is about 12GB of data to download in total so there means there's another 1-2 large patches after that one :( I hope it's wrong.

start the normal downloader then double click the torrent once your connected with the regular downloader and you should find some peers.

its like utorrent or whatever intercepts some of the connections :P
aslong as you utorrent has the peer sharing thing on your good

the tracker still says downloader not authed but its still fasterr than the pos updater.

I began with starting my download through the client lastnight and left it over night, after all that time i'd only reached 48% of the first patch. i was getting an average of 20kb/s.

So this morning I used R34P3RS method of using the torrent and i'm now getting download speeds of up to 600kb/s, very much an improvement and it doesn't slow down my overall internet speed like the client does.

To say it took around 6 hours to get 48% ive got 62% of the patch in just under an hour, if anyone is having problems i would try this as the client is useless.

Omg... I wish I had used utorrent method last night. I started downloading via the client at 10pm yesterday, checked it this morning at 9am and it had only done 67% :(

Now with utorrent I'm hitting 300-400kbs and it'll take 30 mins to finish.

btw, to anyone wanting to change from client download to torrent method, set the torrent download location to match the client location. That way the torrent will continue the progress where the client left and you wont need to re-download anything.

Edit: my utorrent DL speed is hitting 1mb! Thats the fastest I've ever seen a torrent go before! Makes you wonder why the hell SE sticks with these silly clients.

Wish i'd have known this. I started it from the beginning this morning, not too bothered though as it's downloading quick enough, but a good tip for others.

Ok, so I've only just started the download and I've got about 3%, how do I go about setting up this uTorrent download that will get it done faster? And does that apply if you haven't even got any of it downloaded yet? Like, can you just start the download from fresh with uTorrent and get it downloaded quicker?

download utorrent.
goto C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version\downloads\ffxiv-beta

you will find wierdly named folders
inside each folder are 2 folders
metainfo (where the .torrent file is stored)
patch (where the downloaded file is stored)

open the torrent inside metainfo download the file copy it to the patch folder rerun the regular ff client it will integrity check the patch file and then start another file download and create a new wierdly named folder with a metainfo and patch folder inside.

do the same as last time.
