As title. Does the £10 extra show and is it worth it? i know the sonic platinum is a big different from a standard 460gtx. But whats the KAF2 like?

Extra 10MHz on the core isn't going to make any odds and the KFA2 has slower shader clocks by quite a margin - which will make a bigger difference in modern games.

Few weeks im going to decide whats my permanent card. I have a 470gtx but it gets up to 102c in my case ( 82 full load without case side on and in a cool room) So thats not going to be a permanent solution. I was thinking just 2 460gtxs for a few years.

Running a 5770 for now which i have no problems with. But its slow :(

OCUK have got the spec wrong on the shader for this. It should read 1620Mhz.

Galaxy GeForce GTX 460 1GB Super OC Edition:
  • Core Clock: 810MHz vs. standard 625MHz
  • Processor Clock: 1620MHz vs. standard 1350MHz
  • Memory Clock: 2000MHz vs. standard 1800MHz
Galaxy GeForce GTX 460 1GB GC Edition:
  • Core Clock: 700MHz vs. standard 625MHz
  • Processor Clock: 1400MHz vs. standard 1350MHz
  • Memory Clock: 1848MHz vs. standard 18000MHz
Galaxy GeForce GTX 460 768MB Super OC Edition:
  • Core Clock: 810MHz vs. standard 625MHz
  • Processor Clock: 1620MHz vs. standard 1350MHz
  • Memory Clock: 2000MHz vs. standard 1800MHz

Water cool your GTX 470, problem solved.

Makes sense - still extra 20MHz shader/10MHz core isn't going to make the difference of 1fps even unless your pumping out 200+fps.

Oh yeh, just making sure people got the right info. Wouldn't have thought the clocks alone worth an extra £10 over the Palit.

However, if it was a quieter card, that, plus the fact it's easier to clean, might make it worth the extra dosh.

Oh dear, the Galaxy is off my wish-list if this is right:

Taken from the HardOCP review...

"This is a somewhat subjective portion of our hardware testing, simply because the equipment required to objectively record sound pressure levels approaches ridiculous. That said, without manually turning the GPU fan speed on either the 1GB or the 768MB GeForce GTX 460, we simply could not hear these things. Even at full load with the fan spindle wound up, it was silent compared to the other fans in the system. Also conspicuously lacking was the whine produced by vibrating chokes commonly heard from some NVIDIA cards.

In short, the reference design GTX 460 video cards we tested were dead silent. The Galaxy GeForce GTX 460 1GB video card, on the other hand, was not. From the moment we plugged it in, the fan was whiny and loud. And when we fired up FurMark, or any 3D game, it only got worse. Not only was it audible over the other system fans, it was audible over the speakers, and even the office pedestal fan. So while Galaxy has perfected cooling, they have a ways to go to reducing the noise level compared to the reference fan"

Its £10 more expensive than the cheapest HD5850's and £70 more than the cheapest HD5830.

I know, makes for a hard choice. However, now that the Galaxy and Gainward versions are off my list (due to the noise factor), it's back to the lesser OC'd Gigabyte, which is £13 cheaper than the cheapest 5850.

Does this also apply to the Sonic Thunders? If so, they will be going back to OcUK. :(

From reading the reviews, apart from the Gigabyte and MSI variants, seems the standard heatsink/fans seem to work better than the custom ones.

Add a 200mm fan on the outside of the case or inside if u have the room u can cut a big hole with a dremal :P

I just don't understand why they are all putting 3rd party coolers on them that are apparently considerably worse than the stock ones!

OCUK - Get us some 1GB cards with stock coolers!!!
