Ah, and that would explain why it sounded slightly familiar to me as well :) (I think the song was used on a trailer on an ADV disk).
Hopefully you'll stop going nuts now :)

I've been watching the first couple of episodes of Maria, and I'm really enjoying them so far, especially the fact that the student council despite seeming so serious at first seem to all have a sense of humour/fun :)

HAHAHAHA!!! Success!

BY god that was driving me crazy!

:D :D :D

Urgh, Pani Poni Dash ... didn't really get on with that series much at all.

Maria is very melodramatic in places but there is quite a bit of gentle humour mixed into it as well, (I found that the level of humour went up on subsequent watching actually increased as you came to understand the characters better and recognised their foibles).

Parents visiting so not much anime watching at the moment ... managed epsidoe 2 of Amagami SS which is quite enjoyable at the moment, if a bit generic, and we've also covered The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and You're Under Arrest The Movie as both of which as reasonably parent friendly.

Yeah, I'm kinda in a bit of a recessed anime period at the moment, watched a few episodes of Kanon with my brother last night, now that he's starting to watch it (he really didn't like Makoto at first, so it was quite funny watching him watch it, although now he's reaching the end of the Makoto arc he's warming up to the show and her).

Saw a copy of the Higurashi OVAs they made last year so might watch them next (theres only 5 of them as a follow on to the real show), still not decided what to watch as my next 'real' series.

Still got loads of shows just sitting there waiting to be watched, and Im sure some of you know the feeling of when you've got choice you're really not sure what you feel like watching!

memyselfandi,

Aye I'm starting to get the impression there may be a lot more drama/melodrama now i've seen episode 3 :)
I think I'm going to enjoy the series, going by the first 3 episodes.

On a side note the "specials" are great, the second one in the greenhouse made me burst out laughing :)

I've been strugglig to watch much anime for the past few weeks for various reasons, but hopefully I should be watching a little more now :)

Alex, I get that feeling a lot, sometimes there is such a thing as too much choice :)

Some of the mini specials are very, very funny (no spoilers but they get better in season 4 as they actually continue during the end credits for each one making them that little bit longer).

Started watching Romeo X Juliet this evening. So far I've seen the first disk and an episode and am finding it to be very, very good. Good strong characters and setting (ok, I know that Willy S may have had something to do with that originally :)) and the animations pretty good so far. OP music is an interesting choice, although it does work well ...

P.S. Werewolf, I'm now up to date with Mr Weber ... excellent stuff .... can't wait for the next volume ... :)

Good news for the specials :)

I managed episodes 3 and 4 last night which were good, and I can definitely see what you mean about melodrama potential :)

I'm tempted to pre-order the Nozomi rerelease of El-Hazard, but I think I may wait for a Nozomi sale or until there are a couple more discs I want to order due around the same time.

P.S.
Aye, I'm really looking forward to the next book (I've just finished rereading Torch of Freedom, and can see a lot of potential bits from that).

I need to look into El-Hazard as I know absolutely nothing about it, and after 10 secs reading the other day it appears that my pre-conceptions regarding the series are completely wrong.

edit: If anyone is ordering the Eden of the East BR boxset, due out in the US in September, note that according to Manga's Twitter feed it'll be coming out in the UK in November as well.

I think K-On is losing its appeal on me to be honest. It was fun in the first series, but now it just seems to descend into complete stupidity. Yui has to be one of the most annoying characters ever created. Personality of a pleb. I guess that's the point but, I'm finding the formula a bit stale now.

Occult Academey is interesting so far, Mayas facial expressions crack me up tbh. Although i swear one part of the plot is very similar to the video game Half Life 2.

Mitsudomoe is just...wrong, and harsh, and crude, and vile with its sense of humor. But I've found it incredibly funny in places. It's like a dirtier version of Hanamaru Kindergarten. (Now that i think about it, they are pretty much identical).

Strike Witches 2, i can't comment on much really as theres not much to see in the first episode. I take this series with a pinch of salt tbh. I just enjoy it for the snazzy animation, which it pretty good in hd.

I haven't seen any of the second season of K-On! yet so I'll have to defer judgement now.

Mitsudomoe .... I saw the first episode of this and ... didn't like it much. Thinking about the other series in this genre, Hanamaru Kindergarten, Today in Class 5-2 ... even Kodomo no Jikan, this new series seems just crude in comparison really and I didn't find it that funny.

The others I haven't looked at yet.

I think crude sums it up tbh. I was watching the first episode and did laugh a few times, but the second one had some very...vile humour with bodily products and i found myself skipping past those parts for the majority of the episode.

Hmmmm ..... looks like one of the things Funi has solicited for October is Last Exile on Blu-ray .... interesting, it looked very good on DVD, a good BR release would be very nice ...

You know, much as I'd love to say I liked Last Exile, I was kinda dissapointed by it when I saw it, my memory of it is pretty but a bit...empty.

Have you managed to get your order of replacement, fixed Toradora! discs sorted, Andi?

In terms of the stuff they're showing at the moment, I think I'll be taking a look at that 'Ookami to...' series once it's done, sounds like it might be amusing, not really sure on anything else airing this season yet, haven't looked at K-On!! yet because I'd rather wait and be able to watch it at once when it's finished (if I dont fall out with it like Demon!)

Edit:
Oh I've watched a few of the Higurashi OVAs now, I'd say they're worth a look if you're a fan of the series, but I'd recommend a pass if they're not. Because the core premise of the series has changed/finished, they're really just add on scenarios, and don't really add anything to the story per se, and the first of them descends into...almost depressing stupidity which felt a far cry from the first 2 series, which had there moments, but were no way near this level.

That's a bit cack really when they know their are major issues with the discs. You'd be prettu justified watching a fansub given you have paid for a copy which you still can't watch because of major botched disc issues.

So finished Romeo X Juliet earlier. I wasn't sure what to expect when I went into it but in the end I thoroughly enjoyed it. Good characters, pretty good animation, interesting story, good combination of action and romance. Whilst it shares some aspects with the original Shakespeare story it does have plenty of story which is (very) different. All round good series which I recommend.

Had some time to kill after that so ran through the last three episodes of Maria-sama S4 (episode 11 is my favourite of that series and one of my favourite all time M-S episodes ... even if it does have the worse translated line in the entire series).

Then I watched the second episode of Mitsudomoe ... yeah well that's dropped. I see what you meant Demoniser about bodily fluids. The series is crude, clumsy and unfunny compared with others of the genre. A generally poor effort.

Have also been working out rearranging my shelves, (I have a couple of extra bookcases on order at the moment which are due next week). Things, particularly on the manga side, had reached crisis point Hopefully I should be able to sort things out the weekend after this (particularly as the double bed in the spare room is currently completely covered in manga where I have cleared the existing shelves).

Watched (or finished watching) a couple of things today ...

Sakura Wars The Movie - Good film, although you really do need to watch the TV series first or you won't understand, well, anything. Ltd edition comes with some nice cards for the characters.

My Bride is a Mermaid - first half of the series as released by Funi. Hmmm .... moderately funny with a similar sense of humour to School Rumble although most jokes are yakuza related instead of school related. The first 6-7 episodes were pretty good but the second ~6 in this half of the series were a bit meh with the series not really moving along at all ...

Strike Witches S2 (episodes 1 and 2) - ok, I know this title has a bit of a reputation due to the characters costumes, or lack there of, but I though that it was a pretty good start to the second series with characters reuniting and diving back into the action.

Finally got around to finishing Heroic Age tonight, bit ott with mech fight scenes but i am glad to have finished it,it even had an ending with at least some closure :)
Must get around to ordering maria sama series 4 this weekend
I like the first series of SW will have to check out the second series i think (oh the back log of stuff to watch);)
