Glad to see someone posted the intro to MGS2 - one of the the best themes of all time (though it helps it was composed by Harry Gregson-Williams)

Pretty much anything from FFVII is a given. I'd also put forward:

Theme of Laura, from Silent Hill 2 (I'm going to count the PS2 as retro here)

To Zanarkland, from FFX - just a beautiful piece of music

Maybe Tomorrow, from Xenosaga 3 - I don't normally like songs with lyrics in games, but this is not bad at all.

Burning Sorrow, from Vandal Hearts (PSX) - the first time I ever noticed how good game music could be

Last one - not sure what it's called, but it's from the original Tomb Raider and it still gives me goosebumps when I hear it.

I was never a big fan of the early ingame music (heresy!), having never owned anything better than a Speccy 48k. For me, it kicked off with the Playstation and being able to add CD quality music to the mix - just some amazing music. I'd also add pretty much the whole soundtrack to WipeOut 2097, but that's too easy :D

If it's Tombraider it's got to be the original theme music

Also

wipeout 2097 all lol as said above!

Just....................... emense for the game style.

Amiga

Got to be Monkey Island! Still love this, Just finished first on psn again and on 2nd now.

We should make a rule where if you make a post you have to include a video with some music.

Streets of Rage has been listed and the intro to the first one is classic imo. :)

So many different bits of music from old school games take you back to your childhood, but there are some that do it that little bit more vividly than others. The Streets of Rage 1 title theme is one of those.

A couple..

Such an awesome piece of music.
