No More PC ZONE.

It's a shame but it is also the way of things, traditional media is dropping back slowly but surely.

I don't understand cover CD's at all.

I just skim-read the back - if I see anything of interest think 'I'll grab it off t'net', then throw the thing in the bin after my 7 seconds of skim-reading. No disk has ever been near my PC :( I reckon most people are like this ..

They should offer at least for subscribers 'want no-cd? We'll give you £2 off a month...'

Ha, I had the first edition with the Syndicate cover. I seem to remember PC Format coming first though, and PC Zone being the cooler, newer magazine?

Ah i remember getting Counter Strike patches and updates for all sorts of games from PCZone, money well spent on subscriptions. It will be missed :(

shame to see pczone go. It was by far the funniest and in my view most on the money in terms of reviews in its early to middle days.

I like a hard copy mag for my ablutions but latterly the quality has dropped off, I've got less time to game and the price has got silly.

When we were all on dial up and even single line ISDN the cover disks were welcome but they've been redundant for years now.

I'm rather gutted about this :(

I had an interview there back in 2004 (I think) for a job as a staff writer and thought I was about to get my dream job. I was interviewed by Jamie Sefton and CVG's editor, John Houlihan -celebrities to me!

Alas I did not. I didn't buy it often after that as I actually found it quite hard to read what I would've been writing :o

Who knows, perhaps if I'd got the job, I could've saved the magazine, the PC gaming industry and even the world!

Not surprising unfortunately, they were second best (in terms of sales, I'm not playing fanboy here) to PC Gamer who are on the same books for Future Publishing, infact I'm surprised they lasted as long. These sort of magazines have been struggling lately with broadband improving (thus rendering DVDs useless for vast majority of users) and increased quality of writing on the internet alternatives. Doesn't help that PC gamers are quite technically minded so they do know about the all the vast review sites available and doesn't matter how well you write it, £6 a month isn't seen as the best way to spend money now. I think PC Gamer may still have some steam left in its paper variant at least for near future but it really needs to start looking at the e-reader potential. Without printing costs and DVD if they manage to reduce their subscription costs to a few quid then I may consider it as long as it's written well.

PCZONE in the 90's was a mile ahead of PCGAME in terms of news, another league entirely in terms scoops and overall quality of writing... it was quite literally genius, and I had a subscription and every issue from 17 onwards. Sadly over the last 5 years the good writers flew the nest, the editors changed and became progressively worse, the unique writing that once distinguished it faded from existance, with a heavy heart I stopped my subscription around 3 years ago. Sad to hear it's gone, but not surprised. :(

Pc gaming is a dying format and media?

BS!

why would anyone buy a magazine about pc games? they are outdated by time you buy them anyway everyone who plays pc games can read about games on the internet i expect console magazines wont last much longer either

There will be more of this to come. This isnt specificly due to the decline of PC games, its down the decline of the printed media full stop.

Magazines are out of date before they even hit the shelf, and require effort to purchase over an internet alternative that can be viewed on your phone / tablet / PC with a click of a mouse.

the reviews is pczone have been pretty compromised for a while now

they get the early first review and it always gives crap games good scores
seemed to happen a lot more than in pcgamer

That is almost exactly my experience, I loved that mag in the early days!
