*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

Is there any way to check how well the antenna is working. I am supposed to be in a high signal area, but don't have great signal. The antenna app tells me to switch to 2g because of low signal.

I have never had signal issues with other phones, and a faulty aerial would explain why cell standby is the highest battery use on my phone.

I've just got one of these today andi've got a couple of questions if anyone can help.

I had a hero and to upgrade roms, i just pressed the home button while starting the phone to get to recovery mode, and then made sure the rom I had was called update.zip, and picked that from the options. Is that still the same?

I can't remember if I had to install anything to get the recovery mode to work, or is it always there?

Are there Desire specific ROMS, or are the ROM for all Androids?

Thanks

You can download fakeflash from XDA Developers, it's named update.zip, save it to the root of your sd card, you then power on holding the volume down key, pick "recovery" from the menu, wait a minute or two for the recovery screen to come up then press power and volume up, you'll then get a menu with the option to flash "update.zip", pick that then you can flash any rom you like from your sd card. Most roms aren't called "update.zip" but it's irrelevant nowadays.

There are loads of Desire specific roms too, mostly listed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=628

You need to root first, then follow the 5 step guide I posted above. There's no need for fakeflash at all because a permanent recovery exists which is more compatible and feature packed the fakeflash too as well as not needing any update.zip files on teh sd card.

See my post earlier!

Damn Exchange issue. It works on the sense 2.2 ROM! But just won't work on any other ROM. So, I either roll back to 2.1 and copy all the contacts to the sim or install Sense 2.2 ROM

I've checked the Exchange server logs and the phone isn't even getting that far so it must be something on the IIS interface

I've found your post and got that ready, but how do I root initially?

For some reason, I think that is only Orange.

I unlocked mine with an unlock code and haven't flashed a new radio yet, but if I do, I would hope the same unlock code would work. It's just an algorithm after all.

I got a t-mobile locked, got key off ebay before touching phone, unlocked to orange

Rooted and flashed to modaco at the time, yesterday went Defrost and did the radio too and i have not been asked for the unlock code again, i am told it would just be use the same code anyway

think the unlock code is tied to the imei number so you should be able to use it again but maybe once its unlocked thats it?

cool thanks guys

really cannot decide between this and the galaxy s, to me there is no clear cut winner :( makes it harder to choose!

I have come to realise that a lot of people saying the battery on the Desire is rubbish to be fools.

My phone lasted over 17hours yesterday, with me constantly messing with it, listening to music, watching vids, texting a lot, talking on the phone, taking photos and being on the internet plenty throughout the day.

Even then I had over 25% of battery left before I went to bed and charged it.

The only thing that really drains the battery is playing games.

Two of my friends that are iPhone lover, really want a Desire now and another of mine which is a Samsung Die Hard considers the Desire the phone the iPhone should have been.

All in all it's the best phone I've owned.

Guys a question,

I just went Defrost 2.0f last night and now g is out already,

Spent a while getting things how i want them, i assume i lose the lot if i flash the g rom now, i have purchased Ti backup,
Whats the sleekest way to upgrade from release to release?

do a full titanium backup and then flash g over the top of f. if it works then its all good, if it doesn't do a full wipe and flash g. simples :) let us know how you get on

Went from sparta to defrost and the app drawer has become quite laggy. It was as smooth as possible with sparta but not so with defrost. this is with launcherpro set to the 5x8 in settings.

Well, my Desire arrived today from e2save.

going from a 3Gs, I'm a bit overwhelmed by the options available to me - my last android phone was a hero that I had for maybe a week (had to return due to contract error) amd I've forgotten the customisation options.

Hardware wise, the handset is lovely. Screen is clear, and OS is quick and responsive. Feels very solid in the hand, and certainly feels like a quality build.

Luckily, while I'm on Orange, its an unbranded phone, so shouldn't have any of the rubbish that they stick on. I'm wary of using the phone until my case and martin fields protector arrives. I need to ready through a lot of guides for rooting anyway, so I'm running a 0.80 bootloader.

Will check out android forums and XDA, get some info and then check out customisation.

Quick question though, anyone know if its relativey easy to transfer bookmarks from firefox to the handset?

The missus is getting my 3GS (she's had a SE K800i for 4 years!)

There's a app for Xmarks, not sure if you use that but it works wonders.

Probably many other apps that do similar things, it's worth searching for on App Brain (essential app site).
