450watter enough for a quadcore pc ?

I don't see why you wouldn't go for this PSU as mentioned before and then a case such as this one, both of these are great quality whilst still being cheap and can be used for many future builds.

Should Be OK As long as you use Corsair, Coolermaster or Antec

PC Power and Cooling, Enermax. Generally, if you have heard of them, they're good!

...or what about good ol' Seasonic :)

But yeh you definitely don't want to skimp on the psu as everyone here will tell you. They may in some cases work absolutely fine, I know my mates got a generic one still going strong after 2 years with his q9550 (nothing overclocked) however i would strongly advise against it. On the flip side I had a generic one as well in an old rig a few years back and that blew up on me after a couple of years.

They're like ticking time bombs and its not worth the risk imo.

HighlandeR sent u an e-mail via your trust to a site selling Coolermaster Elite 330 Case With Coolermaster eXtreme Power 460W PSU.

The Psu will be more then fine for his needs, is from a reputable maker, so should'nt be any worries on that front.

Cheers already know the one your mentioned, hopefully my m8 will go for it.

Thx for the all the answers chaps

I would look at a larger PSU myself.

y larger ?
Without a high powered gpu the systeam won't even need half that power. Let alone even more

400watt is more than enough
A lot of people seem to go completly overkill when vettings psus
I know someone who had 1000watt and was only running a single gpu

No need for his mates requirements a 400w is more then enough, aslong as its from a good maker.

My whole rig in my sig only uses 450w max, raising to 500w with 2 years capacitor aging, with everything fully loaded up 100%, generally day to day it gets no where near that.

So even i could get away with a 450/500w quality psu, but i opted for a 650w as who knows when u will need that little bit extra when upgrade fever hits.

This is one thing ive never understood I see oem pcs like the hps/packardbells and there running Q8300/6gig/1dvdwriter/GT220 512meg/ 1tb hdd/riggs on fsp 300watters ?

Using a ps calculator using the parts id be using only hits 280-300watts use.

Anyhow ocuk got there lovely range of reliable p/s now ;)

I think the psu thing is a little bit hyped.

I've built lots of pc's with arctic power 500w psu's (20 quid from a competitor).
All with mid range graphics cards like 8800gt's and quad cores.
2 years later, they're all still fine!

400watt for a decent quad = more than 50% load from the PSU, in turn resulting in it working overtime = noise?
