Had enough of problems with my rx8 so looking to trade it in. What can I get which is as much fun to drive but more reliable an hopefully more economical? I have 9k tops (including rx8 trade value). Ideas?

There is no way that you can ever hope to match the RX8 in terms of a drivers car...(;))

I would say that a BMW 330ci Sport, or even an early M3 is the best bet for a replacement and is what i would be buying.

Yet my money would be on an Integra DC5 - definitely a drivers car, far more economical, reliable and cheaper to maintain and bigger rear seats than the RX8 :D

Cheers for the suggestions guys :0) was wondering about the z4? What's the opinion on that? I like the 350z too but fuel economy would be just as bad as the Rex.

Really like the s2k but they seem a bit on the pricey side. Z4 seems cheaper and I'd prefer a BMW to a Honda I think. Focus ST is a nice car too but is really just a souped up family car. Prefer something a bit more sports car like.

Get your engine rebuilt and enjoy another 60k+ miles of joy.

I own an ST, and after having one for a weekend, I desperately want an RX8 as a "weekend toy", despite its lack of t0rks and it being slower than the ST.

You'll be able to pick up a 2003 low spec z4 for 9k, but if you want something with a few more options you'll need over 10k still.

S2000, job done.

My thoughts exactly :)

It's a massive shame that the running cost vs the performance of these RX8's make them hard to justify.

Out of interest anyone know what kind of fun things modders are doing with these cars? I would love an RX7 as a weekend toy when/if I get rid of the MR2 :D

You need to drive one - once behind the wheel, you forget about the <20MPG and the lack of outright pace. That said, the one I drove had the PZ suspension.

I was honestly in a position to chop-in my 2008 ST for a 2004 RX8 without even a second thought.

Do prefer the look of the z4 to the s2k although do like them both. From my searches on autotrader so far s2k's seem pricier than z4's of the same age. Would love to keep the rx8 as it's a cracking drive but I can't justify 3k on an engine rebuild.

You buy S2000s on condition, not age. Most people go for 2002 (iirc) or above for the rear glass screen, or if you fancy face-lift 2004 onwards.

Mine was a low mileage 2006 and is no different to a brand new 2009 model really.

Your criteria for an S2000 should be condition and work done (specifically bushings/alignment bolt greasing).

Celica was a 52 plate 140bhp. Nice enough car but had engine management problems so got shot of it. Traded it for an rx8 with compression issues :0( I'll have another look at s2k's
