Who killed jesus?

After a bit of a smoking session last night the conversation got a bit deep. Something was on tv and either AD or BC was mentioned and we started talking aobut what BC and AD stood for, I said AD is Anno Domini - after the death of Jesus and BC is before christ.

This then turned into discussing if BC 100 was 100 years before Jesus death or before he was born, I said before his death, which progressed onto who was it that killed Jesus.

Me and one of my housemates said it was Jews who killed Jesus and Christ(Jesus?) was a Christian, out other housemate said it was the Romans who killed Jesus and Jesus himself was a Jew - born in Jerusalem. I did think he was supposed to be born in Jerusalem.

I am not religous at all, I think Religion made up over time from someone who maybe fed a few poor families with bread and fish, but certainly did not feed 10,000 people. Religion IMO is also the causes of a lot of evil. I am Atheist.
I do however believe there was someone called Jesus but he certainly did not do a lot of the thing in the bible.

I tried Google searching for "who killed Jesus" and a mass of stories and views came back, all not giving an answer

Jesus Christ was alleged born in Bethlehen, a small town in what is now the West Bank although his Parents were Nazarenes and they returned to Nazareth shortly after King Herods death after fleeing to Egypt due to Herods proclamation to kill all first born Sons, hence the title Jesus of Nazareth.

Anno Domini is medieval Latin for In the Year of Our Lord (Jesus), the exact dating is complex as it encompasses both the Julian and Gregorian calenders and has been messed about with, but it basically dates our calender from his birth, not death. B.C simply means Before Christ s in his birth, although most historians now use B.C.E meaning Before the Common Era.

As for his death, after his arrest in Gethsemene shortly after The Last Supper, he was forced to stand trial before the Sanhedrin who turn him over to the Roman Prefect of Judea, Pontius Pilate and the Client Ruler of Galilee, Herod Antipas for execution.

As the story goes, Pilate was reluctant to execute Jesus because of his popularity amongst is followers, so he offered the gathered Mob a chance to free him, but incited by the Pharisees they choose the murderer Barabbas instead. Hence the claim of Jewish responsibility.

After being flogged, mocked and crowned with thorns he was marched to Golgotha, stripped naked and nailed to the cross and crucified. According to the Mark's Gospel, he survived for 9 hours before being stabbed by a Roman soldier in the side to confirm his death. The Roman's name is never mentioned but accounts, (mainly the Gospel of Nicodemus) outside the biblical Gospels name him Longinus who after the crucifixion converted to christianity and is now venerated as a saint.

Christ's body was removed from the cross by Joseph of Arimathea and with the help of a Pharisee called Nicodemus buries him on the spot where the Church of the Holy Sepulchre now stands.

AD is from the birth of Jesus, not his death

The Romans nailed Jesus to the cross, after being called to do so by the Jewish people.
Jesus was a Jew, those who follow Jesus Christ are called Christians.

Cant you just talk about the universe or the source of all creation while high rather some semi fictional character? :P

There is historical evidence that a man named Jesus lived, that cannot be questioned. You choose to accept his divinity or not.

Some of the replies on this thread make me feel better about a thread I might make later in which I insult things highly personal to some.

Hope the mods don't see anything wrong with it.

Seriously though, there is one thing discussing and poking fun, and another just taking the absolute urine.

Wiki said:
Anno Domini (abbreviated as AD or A.D., sometimes found in the irregular form Anno Domine) and Before Christ (abbreviated as BC or B.C.) are designations used to label years in the Julian and Gregorian calendars. The calendar era to which they refer is based on the traditionally reckoned year of the conception or birth of Jesus, with AD denoting years after the start of this epoch, and BC denoting years before the start of this epoch. There is no year zero in this scheme, so the year AD 1 immediately follows the year 1 BC. This dating system was devised in AD 525, but was not widely used until after AD 800.[1]

AD is not from when he died. It is simply the year after his birth, onwards.

:p

Edit:Been monumentally slow here I see.

History that has been covered above, but the romans put him to death.

Try to remember this is GD & it's a light hearted look at subjects. :)
If you want stricter admin control & a serious discussion just post in SC. :)

The more I read about religion, the more bizarre it sounds.

Why has there never been a modern day Jesus! Why only then! What a crock of crap.

The number of people in this thread who are clearly uneducated is shocking. Jesus was not fictional. Whether or not he was the Son of God (God as man) is your own personal opinion.

The fact that a man called Jesus existed is indeed, Fact.

Either Jesus was the real genius and truly inspirational one in a trillion kinda guy the Bible says he is. Or the real deeds of his life were... altered in the Bible to be something not entirely reflective of the truth. I'm not just talking about the miracles either.

Still though, he was the dude :D

*Warning Thread Diversion*

Anybody notice that Freaky eyed dude called Jesus in the World cup ? Coincidence ? + :D

He doesn't exist, nor does the nonsense known as religion... People just believe in crap.

As soon as a ET turns up in 5 years or a million, all religions on this earth will become a fictional story.

My opinion.

Wasn't it Longinus who shanked Jesus on the cross and finished him off?

He is mentioned in the Acts of Pilate and the Gospel of Nicodemus, but the authenticity of this is highly controversial due to it's anti-semitic references in regard to who was responsible for the death of Jesus.
