***Official Final Fantasy XIV Thead***

Thought I'd finally give FFXI a go with the XIV beta servers being down atm and it seems like there isn't any trial at all available atm :(.

Ive also wanted to restart FFXI recently.. anyone here still play? is it more solo-friendly now?

Steam have it for £9.99 at the moment, 30 days included so i think ill take a punt!

Quit in 08, no point going back to start again considering how much I had achieved.

Fresh start with FFXIV for me!

Dammit, what am I doing wrong! :(

I have downloaded fully the patches:
H2010.07.12.2000.patch
H2010.07.15.2000.patch

They are both in the folder named d96437e6 as that's where the torrents and files were created. I run the FFXIV launcher and it checks the version, and scans the files (preparing to download version update files)... and starts at 0.1% downloaded! What the hell!

Do I need to have downloaded the H2010.07.05.2000.torrent as well?

It's not really solo friendly at all unless you play Beastmaster, you will be forced to group past about level 10, admittedly it's a lot easier to get groups now since they brought in level sync.

Forward your ports and run the client, you'll get good speeds and it'll save you a lot of hassle. I couldn't get the torrents to work no matter what I did, but the download went from <1.0KB/s to >300KB/s when I sorted the ports out, and the client got itself downloaded overnight.

The problem for me hasn't been the ports as such, its been the upload speed. I'm on VM Cable, so fairly fast downloads but crap uploads. Anything about 20kb/s completely destroys any download speeds, and the client tries to upload at 40kb/s, which means the download speeds are worse than I was getting the torrents done :(

Can I ask how peoples rigs are handling the game/benchmark?

Especially those running a HD5850 and/or PhenomII x4 3.2?

On the high res bench i have only been getting around 3500. I know its in the alpha state/not using multi core/windowed, but this this a normalish non-oc score?

Ah right, I think I hit just over 4k at stock with a 920 and 5850 fella, will run it again to check now.

4098 on High @ stock.

You guys are getting really high scores. I'm getting a 460 1gb tomorrow so hopefully it'll increase my performance quite a bit.

I found that turning Shadows to High instead of Very High really helped my performance last time. It was still choppy in crowds, but playable for the most part.

My bench scores with my current setup (see sig) are:

1706 - High
2970 - Low

I'll check it out again tomorrow

I still haven't been selected for the beta but I have the client downloaded and ready just in case.

I can live without shadows as they always seem to hinder any graphics card on high, I remember in XI I always had shadows off and it helped a lot.

Does anyone know what the buffer size does?

Ah yes, I am used to playing with shadows off:) I usually go for slightly smoother lines.

Could you let me know how/where you downloaded it? I have an MSN if you prefer.
