Alien Swarm - free Valve game

I wonder if the steam forums will be filled with people screaming 'OMG WHY IS IT SO LATE, I TOOK TIME OFF WORK TO DOWNLOAD IT IT'S AN HOUR LATE!'

Every single game time a game gets released it's the same story...oh and
'VALVE U RLY SUX IM NUT BUYING ANY GAMES 4RM U ANYMORE!'

It's because Steam is American.

Not entirely true. The steam day also starts at 10am, and they are American based. Most days start at midnight, but steam don't go in for these new fangled mechanical and electrical clock things, they're too busy using valves and steam.
8pm for us for it to unlock, no preload it would appear....

****! ****! ****! ****!

I cancelled my wedding day to download this and those ******** at Steam don't even have it available!!!

Never buying a game again from those *********!!!

Available: 19 July 2010
This game will unlock in approximately 2 hours :)

i think ill forget about it for tonight and grab it in the morning when the servers are less busy

a pre-load would have been nice for this :(

I dont understand people asking for pre-loads on this as a free game.
Surely its not the same as Steam re-selling a game that is complete that has a set release date by the softare house/publisher.

Its probably got the release date it has because that is when its gong to be ready.
A pre-load would have been great, but I think its kinda understandable that there was none.

Because it would stagger the amount of people downloading ? if it's all download at once soon as released it's a nightmare.

If it were available yesterday or the day before for pre-load, I'm pretty sure their server would have been massively bombed then. With all the hype that is surrounding this game, as soon as its available, hundreds of thousands of people are going to be grabbing it.

My point was more that the game probably has not been finished, knowing steam and following one set-back already. Their release dates are "grey area" at best.

It would be counter productive to have hundreds of thousands of people download an un-finished client then having to re-download it or the patch when the game goes live.

In all the Valve pre-loads I've ever been involved with there was at least a 300mb session to finish when the game went live. If they had set up a pre-load last week it would have undoubtedly relieved network congestion, there might have been a bit of a spike when the pre-load was available but it would have been nothing like the spike we are going to see tonight.

I've been through a few pre-load and non pre-load games so far, it has always been far smoother with one. I also doubt that with one week to go there was anything but last minute changes, which they could chuck in a mini patch when it went live, like they always do.

It just would be better.

its just gone to 1 hour (yes im sad enough to keep checking) looks like 8:30 unlock if this count is accurate
It is only accurate to one hour intervals. They have been counting down at about ten to the hour I think. So should be 8ish.

EDIT: Now it's saying there is 3 hours to go. That's Valve time folks.
