gaming machine

He doesn't want to have to upgrade. :p Which is quite understandable, I felt the same 3 years ago.

Read that above,I understand that he doesn't want to upgrade but to swap out a graphics card takes about 10 minutes at the most, upgrades arent much hassle really.
I was jus saying what I would do,OP can do whatever he likes

Personally I would spend something like 1200 and spend the rest on upgrades in the next few years.
New sockets, graphics card etc. come out every year so theres no point spending loads on a soon-to-be outdated socket

Edited out of stupidity. Ignore.

Fair enough, well yes I suppose if you're more concerned about money then spending less to start with and upgrading every 18 months or so is usually the smart way to go. However spending £2k on a high end gaming PC with all peripherals isn't _that_ bad in my opinion. Starts to get quite excessive when you get closer to the £3k mark.

Thing is,OP might just need this to play farmville.I think with a 1500 pound system you could play games at decent settings for a few years

Is it me or these days everyone is specing builds with gtx 480, is it the new 5970? It's as if 5970 has been forgotten.

1) I like single GPU cards, no issues with games which have poor scaling for multi-GPU.
2) With the new prices the GTX 480 is starting to make a bit more sense.

I know what your saying I dont mind upgrading a graphics card it was more the board and cpu I was meaning

That is a messy job alrite, but I think when it comes to it you will be thanking yourself that you kept money so that you could get this future technology :D

At the end of the day,it is up to you.
Giving my opinion is all.

Run of the mill? I would put money on the fact that a i7 920 at 4GHz will still be absolutely fine for gaming in 3 years time.

Revo drives are somewhat silly and overpriced, also don't support Trim.
