Personally I would spend something like 1200 and spend the rest on upgrades in the next few years.
New sockets,graphics card etc. come out every year so theres no point spending loads on a soon-to-be outdated socket

Run of the mill? I would put money on the fact that a i7 920 at 4GHz will still be absolutely fine for gaming in 3 years time.
Revo drives are somewhat silly and overpriced, also don't support Trim.
