Alien Swarm - free Valve game

Finished it on hard, was enjoyable. Looking forward to more campaigns.

We started off playing it on Insane right away, but it was rather difficulty with low level characters so we had to stop a couple of levels in and go down to hard.

Definitely a good platform for future expansion though, it is like a more modern Alien Breed, faster paced and it doesn't have the same cool sounds, but still.

Good fun this. Will be playing more over the next couple of weeks I imagine. :)

Got blue screen at first run however and had a occasionally looping sound freeze (apparently fixed by switching to borderless window mode, same as L4D funnily enough)...

Does anyone else wish end fights would last longer so you can finish the song that you put on for event fights?

It's the thing I look forward too when playing :D

What level should each member of the team be to try hard? at the moment we are running it on easy

Tbh the level doesn't have a huge bearing on it, after the tesla cannon / flamethrower the rest of the weapons aren't really great.

This is really my only gripe with the game, medics should also get the medbox and tech should get the welder item auto imo so they have a little leeway in picking weapons.

been playing this most of last night on insane or hard, pretty enjoyable game.
im just hoping they release some more weapon options maybe a p90, that would be aswome. cant wait for new campains.

Downloaded this last night after seeing this thread.

Pretty enjoyable game when you get a group who understand the concept of working as a team. ;)

I assume it's free and comes with the full source to try and encourage mods and to bring new people onto the modding scene?

Makes sense to me given that this where the creators came from.

We did the hard campaign all the way through from level 2 I guess.

The levels do give you an advantage because of some of the equipment you can unlock, but I'd say only insane is impossible starting at level 1.

I never feel it's worth playing a game like this on anything other than the hardest difficulties as you end up spoiling some of the fun. It's nice to get stuck and have to put some effort in to complete it.

We might go back and try to complete it on insane, but it's much more difficult than hard and requires a lot less mistakes and superior organisation.

I think Valve have released this free to encourage Steam installation which may foster further purchases from Steam. I'm not sure there'll be DLC from valve but I'm sure there'll be loads of maps within a few weeks.

Found this way back in 2005 where they made this mod for UT2003 IIRC?
Looks awesome need to download this game asap.

Reminds me of playing Gauntlet on the Amstrad CPC :D

Awesome game although it creeped me out a bit playing single player - looking forward to some Co-op play online later :)

this has got paid DLC written all over it

I doubt it, given that they've released the SDK.

If any awesome DLC were to be released, the content would just get third-party modded into the game. DLC for SDK'd games doesn't really work!

So, what are people's favourite loadouts?

I only played up to level 6 last night, but I have to say, Trip Mines are fudging awesome :D

I just think this game would be massively more fun without FF

If some people must have ff, then put it on hard mode only

I think FF is what makes the game more of a challenge, and gives the opportunity to swear at your pals :p

Admittedly, playing with randoms can be frustrating.

Question, talk of Vent and TS, is there no in-built voice chat in this game??
