Hm, sounds like the management is getting paranoid about the negative rep that ALL admins on forums recieve.

Basically every forum on the internet will have X% (majority) of members who consider the higher-ups to be power crazed morons.

Don't let it get to you OcUK. Who cares what the legions of morons think. You'll never be everyones friend. Don't try to be.

Yes, true. It wouldn't hurt for the moderators to apologise when they know the messed up or acted stupidly though. We're all human after all.

I've been hare a fair while, and I've never really had a problem with the mods. There will always be people who think that they can say what they want on a forum, including stuff that many find offensive and annoying. In turn, forums will usually try to impose some discipline. If you want chaos, go to 4chan. But most people don't; they want at least some control. One obvious compromise would be Mighty River of Flame style forum for those who want to be idiots in public, and it would keep them away from those of us who don't want to see the forum IQ sink into single figures.

But I do agree that the technical side of the forums need a boost. I get the general impression that technically-based forums everywhere are getting quieter, and OcUK seems to be following the trend.

[*]To squash the impression some have that this forum is run by powercrazed moderators, its not but their is an impression out there it is.

I have noticed already over the past few months things are a bit more lax, but I still keep hearing of people getting suspended and genuinely not knowing why and never getting an explanation to avoid it next time, all in some hope they don't accidentally do it again. You should make sure reasons are given.

Every member currently on an expiring suspension received a message at the time stating why they have been suspended, whether that be MM issues, insults or whatever :)

Then mods must have been told to do it properly, good to hear.
It has happened to me, but a long, long time ago.

My main criticism of the moderation on this forum is purely limited to the members market area. I know of many people that have recieved bans from this area purely because of over the top moderation. I appreciate that there are forum rules to try to keep the place running smoothly, but I have seen and experienced genuine attemps from people to post information in there on a thread only to be banned (when they have open threads and people trying to contact them) for something minor like a misinterpreted bump or expressing interest in a thread without posting a price or something.

I also think that it gets quite heated and disrespectful in the motors forum (and sometimes general). There are a certain few members that spoil it for the rest with their attitudes. They know what they are doing. They post within the rules (just) but make the place very uninviting for newer members and are argumentative for the sake of it.

Not sure what can be done about the second above point, but hey.

The facility for giving a reason for a suspension hasn't always been available so there was a time when the only way to communicate was via email and sometimes that would bounce and the member would remain suspended until contact was made:p

I agree jaybee, especially about the attitudes sometimes, it needs to be stamped out tbh. It can be like a little exclusive club sometimes where nobody's welcome.

In terms of MM, I think the rules are there for everyone to read, people are reminded to adhere by them and you can't relax it too much. You already get 3 strikes before your access is removed as far as I know. I find the rules acceptable, only a tiny bit harsh but it keeps the place in order, which is really necessary when money is being exchanged, sometimes very large amounts. I understand there's not always time for mods to take everything on a case-by-case basis, in fact, it's probably a waste of time. Just make sure new members are reminded to abide by the rules (maybe an automated email when their trust is activated?) and it should be perfectly fair.
