***Official Final Fantasy XIV Thead***

Damnit, so many places to timeout before actually reaching the game. Would it have been so hard to restrict the numbers at the start and upscale til they start hitting problems they can fix? This is just frustrating.

They did :). As far as I am aware we are on the third wave of invites to the beta. Plus there was a problem with login earlier which is claimed to be fixed. If you have the opportunity to try again you may have more success, at least until you get into the queue to join the game. Last time I tried I was about 460 in the queue

Basically they are stress testing the servers and game and that can't stress test stuff without putting it under stress.

Yeah I've been trying to login since 7am, but it just times out. It seems its very much a stress test considering that everyone is having the same problem.

I wouldn't be surprised if after they give each server their two hour maintenance, things will be much better.

No point trying to log in until square update on their main page the servers are still down, seems like they found something that needs a good chunk of fixing. I say good since that means another major system fault already taken care of in beta stages.

Can anyone tell me if they have noticed that using an Nvidia card is getting them better performance over an ATI in this game/benchmark.

I have someone who people are going to for hardware info for upgrades and he keeps saying nvidia is best for performance as its Nvidia logo'd. As is basically sounding like a nvidia fanboy saying not to get ATIs becuase they will get a performance drop.

He keeps saying they blow the ATI out of the water, I though I pointed out they are also more expensive so you get what you pay for.

Surely the differrence isnt that big..?

basically any game thats gfx logo'd is given money by that company.. and naturally then the game will "optimise" its gfx so that card does better slightly. The difference wont be that much imo.

Its never unplayable because its not branded by the game... get the best bang for the buck.

The problem is the beta isn't optimised fully at the moment. Also I think FFXIV uses PhysX which is only used on Nvidia cards.

It was also reported that stuttering was present in ATI cards, but Nvidia cards also had a specific problem aswell apparently. Although I think it was only for the 7x series cards.

I wouldn't worry about it personally. Once retail is out the game should be better optimised and coded.

My 5850 runs perfectly fine in the bench, a constant line with no dropouts at all and it all looks fluid and smooth.

nvidia logo means very little to any game its just advertising...

the game does have atleast in the beta under known issues "ati performance problems" which is obviously going to be fixed

I thought it might be the case.
---------------

I have an ATI and I couldnt play Dragon age until I install physx drivers. Is this using Physx or did it just need to know a driver is there?

I have my old 8800Gt still, using an old driver can i plug that in to for physx or does the ATI+physx driver do the trick?

Just a note to say UK/EU based linkshell 'Knights of the Round' have just hit 30 members, with a good 15+ regularly on msn.

HERE to sign-up
I remember reading the Knights of the Round site months ago and I couldn't help but laugh. Control freak, rules, cliche groups, ***-kissing etc, not really my thing.

Make friends, have fun and give and take. That's all that matters. Unless its late-end-game and you need someone to organise people and arrange events etc. Otherwise these things are a nightmare to be part of.

Personally, from my experience with FFXI, I would never again join a LS that is so hell bent over the leadership and rules and "ranks" of its members.

I've not looked at the site but their thread on the BETA site gave that impression, i'm not interested at all and if anything i know that anyone in that particular linkshell is probably stupid and can be used as a badge to avoid spending time with.

well you've got completely the wrong idea mate...

maybe its the rulebook that gives this impression.
the rulebook we've put up there is just a safeguard against dramas... all common sense, all completely standard and only really there in case we get grievers so we can just say "look you signed up to the LS, grieved and broke this rule... la la la. you're out"
sure its full of legalese but again, if anyone whos a griever argues... theres a clear case against them.

we are a SOCIAL shell, completely relaxed about leadership, as for ranks of members. you have new recruits, members and officers like virtually every guild out there...
we've got a great community on msn/vent

apologies you've got the wrong idea, but no worries. we've got a great little community of over 40 members now and are doing well and having fun.
hope you have fun in your guild.

Wonder if a GTX 460 will be able to run it very well, or just "well". I was going to buy a GTX 460 1GB card for this game, hope that would be ok.

By the way I'm really interested in joining Knights of the Round!
