Did anyone manage to play this weekend? Kept getting an error every time, same one as earlier last weekit just timed out.
Yep, I played for 10+ hours on Saturday. Had no problems getting in at any time and I was on Jecht which was the only server to have problems. Did questing, gathering and just random killing solo and in a party. Also did some general exploring, looking at the sights and chillin.
It is shaping up to be an epic game, yes there is some lag and bugs, hey it's a beta, but what I saw was excellent. We even got good enough to kill Dodo's

I don't understand why I could get on^From what I've noticed from randomly reading benchmark scores around the internet, it seems that people who have quad-cores (like i5's, i7's etc) seem to get a much larger score in the benchmark over someone who has a high clocked dual core and often times, a much better GPU.

you havent even tried it the actual beta runs atleast twice as bad as the benchmark does its horrible and barely playable on the best system you can build
I had no expectations of this game, I've participated in many betas there were hundreds times better than this pile of ****e; unless they make some serious adjustments this game is going no where fast.

You played beta's in the past of completely different games by different companies, so therefore, this Final Fantasy XIV beta SHOULD be as good as, or better than the previous beta?What is so hard to understand? A closed beta is an invitation to TEST a game to find problems, to stress the servers, to discover gameplay, interface, technical and graphic bugs. Is that really so hard to understand? Because honestly I don't get the way people think.
Seriously, if you don't like the game then just don't play it. You're still a total moron for judging the game at beta stage where a huge majority of the game has not been implemented into the beta. We're only looking at and playing a small fraction of the overall thing.
Also, going nowhere fast? The thousands of other people on the beta site don't seem to agree with you.
I have done and posted a few comments in that thread and regularly read it. I honestly can't see where you're getting this from?
Non of them with high-end systems have reported being unable to play due to GPU problems, especially since the new wave of beta testers arrived. They have problems granted, but then this is a beta and SE have already fixed certain issues My system isn't the best but I can certainly play the game with no problems. I also played it when I had a 8800gt and it worked fine. Granted I, like everyone else, experienced server and login issues. But SE are aware of these things and are fixing them.
Its obvious you don't like the game and that's fine, but stop spouting over the top nonsense. You seem to be incredibly offended by the fact that you can't run a BETA >TEST< version of a game at the highest settings possible with the smoothest gameplay possible.
Why do people have such a hard time understanding what a beta is? The argument that you have played Beta's before, therefore, this one must be the same or better, is just down-right pathetic and a total non-argument.

This is completely untrue. I don't have anything remotely close to a top end system (a 955 and HD5850, neither overclocked) and I can run the beta with no problems. Yes there is server side lag in populated areas but in general I have had a very positive experience. On the 22nd September I will be there waiting for the servers to open
.Running a 5850 (Asus overclocked a lot) and 4GB of memory now. The CPU is the same tho.
I would not stake on what people say as to whether I would buy it or not.

Well it's an Asian MMO which are generally pretty different in playstyle. Only reason I mentioned it.Beta is moving into Phase 2 - which means: 24/7 servers! Loving it.
I've been having more fun with this beta than I have any other MMO I've played. They've really changed the way the genre approaches crafting and item gathering. Also the combat is BY FAR the best combat system I've ever used in an MMO.
